I have the same questions, and I am typing this with legion 5 pro, so far I think the screen and thermals would be the biggest difference.. primarly the screen, this one is FHD, and 15.6, there is a alienware model with QHD display for similar price, so it comes down to screen size, do you need the numpad , I am also debating and I will also add that the lenovo vantage software has been the most efficent to use compared to HP omen software, and alienware command center.

Pretty sure you can apply the Dell 10% unique discount coupon to this deal. There's the AAA option (https://www.dell.com/en-us/member/lp/aaa) and also subscribing to their newsletter.

Also this laptop gets surprisingly low numbers when it comes to gaming. Here's a fairly comprehensive review of the laptop and I have skipped to the conclusion: https://youtu.be/9NyGzjuydLk?t=788

Given you can get this for $1233 if you can get a 10% code, it's significantly less that its original retail price. People weren't recommending it because of the original price. At this price, people may overlook some of its shortcomings.

Legion 5 Pro is a far superior machine, both in terms of port selection and performance and the QHD+ (2560x1600) 165Hz display is far superior and brighter (500 nits) than the 165Hz 1080p Display (300 nits).

I have it. It's pretty sleek. I don't think you could go wrong with either. I'm guessing the Legion 5 Pro is a bit bulkier, but has better cooling.

Or you can get it with 1TB SSD and 15.6", QHD 2560x1440, 240Hz display for $1469 here:

https://deals.dell.com/en-us/memb...etail/dipv

For less than $100 more than the OP deal (depending on your discounts and CB) that seems like a better deal.

The AAA 10% code does not work on this. Nor does the DPA5 code for 5% for using Dell Preferred Account.

So far, apart from SD SB, I don't see much other discounts to apply.

I'm curious in general lots of folks are asking about high quality ~15'' displays, are most people using gaming laptops with just the built in display to game? I get in the case of the lenovo it's a minor upgrade cost wise and likely worth it, but in some cases it's a >$100 jump.

I've had several over the years ( right now on a razer with 2060, which will be replaced likely this BF ) but I almost never game exclusively on the laptop screen. I use it with a 24'' monitor or big screen TV at home or even a tv when on the road at hotels and just use a controller when it's connected to tv.

Seems like even if editing video/photo etc most people would use a better quality / larger external monitor or jump to ~17'' laptops if they had requirements forcing them to do this on the computer screen.

If you have an AmEx card, you may have a coupon for $120 off at Dell. Not sure if it works with EPP, and the expiration on the coupon / deal might be after this ships (I'm assuming Dell does not charge your card until it ships). However, there are some other deals on Dell laptops. If you play around with the configurations, you can find some that ship now. Sadly, I could not find one with a 3070, but there are Ryzen 5 and Ryzen 7 options for the CPU.

Also, you might be able to save some money by getting a variant with less memory and swap in additional memory when it arrives. The one I looked at seemed to bump the price up a lot from 8GB to 16GB. The 256GB and 512GB SSDs are also much less than the 1TB SDD.

Note that this particular model doesn't seem to have a configurator, so you're stuck with those specs.
