Some like it, some hate it. personally, found the story somewhat interesting but gameplay mechanisms were too repetitive (walking around everywhere) and became bored with the game somewhat quickly.

Yes next week. This purchase shows it includes the DLC so you won't need to purchase that separately which is $9.99. So the base game is $4. I have seen some stuff referencing Half Life playing now on PC which I have not seen on the PS4 unless that came out last week.

His games have always, always, always been about storytelling first. He is basically a movie director who decided games were the best medium for his creativity. Secret government cabals, the power of the financial elite / 1%, social media and misinformation damaging society — these are all topics his games have been about, often years before the problem becomes obvious to the main stream.
Even this game (MINOR SPOILERS), released in **November 2019**, is about an America after a major virus that has totally isolated and disconnected it's citizens. Now the nation depends on delivery services to brave the dangers of the world to maintain any semblance of society.
So if you're open to playing a work of art that has interesting, unique gameplay to move the story from beat to beat, then Death Stranding is a great purchase for $15. ($14 on Eneba). If you wanna run and gun, climb walls and parachute over nuclear explosions like an 80s action movie, you should look elsewhere
Either way, if you already own the base game the Director's Cut upgrade is indeed $9.99, not a free upgrade unfortunately.
This game is very much a walking simulator with a wacked out (but very good) story. I'm not sure I'd keep playing it/play it again for another $10 though.

Well whichever it is. I have access to Silver and Gold items now on PC, which is also part of the PS5 directors cut content. So I assumed that DLC was the directors cut.
The story is borderline obtuse but the main character is fairly empathetic. Essentially the world of dead is kind of invading the living and theres dwindling safezones. youre a courier delivering parts and messages like a postman.
The games starts fairly simple but as you progress you unlock upgrades to things like your ability to carry packages and even build roads and fast travel. There are guns, combat and bosses, but the primary game loop is traveling and building in a sort of sim like world building environment with the goal of ease of travel through dead zones where the rain kills everything the ghosts dont.
what sort of ties it together is very real feeling environments with weather effects and an absolutely haunting soundtrack. The music is insanely good.
This isnt so much an action game as something you sort of sink into, akin to virtual reality.
Id say its not for those with ADHD but I have ADHD and this sucked me in hard. I probably put in 100 hours on the PS4 version. Been waiting for a deal on PC.
Its hard for me to think of who I wouldn't recommend this to, but still it might not be for everybody. Just know its more like a Sim with action and combat than the other way around.
If you've ever dreamed of slowly walking around grassy fields or rocky hillsides but been too afraid to leave your urban tech drone apartment hive this game would be perfect for you.
I had heard many people say you either hate it or love it. I merely like it. Go figure.
I tend towards FPS, but do like story. Witcher 3 is a personal favorite. I also enjoyed Cyberpunk, Control, Farcry 3-5 (haven't played 6). I'd probably rate Death Stranding on par with Metro stuff. Enjoyable enough.
DS definitely has story but the basic gameplay is monotonous. You quickly learn how to skip through the 100's of brief cutscenes.
I'm playing on an ultrawide with a 3070Ti. Near max on everything. Graphics are great. The weather effects are spectacular. The acting is good. Driving mechanics sort of suck....as does the required long haul delivery missions which seem to pop up annoyingly too often. Certain missions can take a very LONG time. And don't die out on the road, you'll essentially start over.
Basically, the whole game is a grind. The world and storyline make up for it though. Its different enough to keep your interest. If you are a general sci-fi movie/tv fan, its worth a play. If not, you may want to pass.
Edit: I finished the game but was much further away from the end than I thought.
I put 56hrs into it.
Ultimately, I enjoyed it and felt I got good value for the $15ish I paid.
