If you are spending $1000+ for a laptop and are not getting 16GB of RAM you are making a mistake.
Now if you are getting a Macbook Air for $800 (like it has been on sale for numerous times) with 8GB of RAM thats a bit more palatable.
Another thing to consider is if you are planning on upgrading in a few years and want to sell this Macbook Pro the 8GB will drastically reduce the resale value.
Many people think "Oh I am not doing any photo/video editing/coding so I dont need more than 8GB of RAM"
I have an M1 with 16GB and a 16" with 32GB - when running multiple tabs in chrome and safari I have 12-14GB of usage on my M1 and sometimes 26-28G of RAM usage on my 16".

New improved keys
8 GB seems to be plenty for the Max M1s. Read the reviews the memory and cpu architecture.

if it were 16gb, it'd be deal of the year!
Is this worth is to save 800$?

Depends on your usage. M1 is great. M1 is better. M1 has the old design. Pro has an updated design with new screen etc. If you can spare the 800 keep the one you have.
