Really wished Costco started carrying the 16GB RAM variants of any macbook Frown
Model MGN73LL/A Air seems like the better deal at $1050 with what appears to be an identical chipset and 512ssd.
That's just not true. Both Safari and Chrome eat up RAM like none other.

If you are spending $1000+ for a laptop and are not getting 16GB of RAM you are making a mistake.

Now if you are getting a Macbook Air for $800 (like it has been on sale for numerous times) with 8GB of RAM thats a bit more palatable.

Another thing to consider is if you are planning on upgrading in a few years and want to sell this Macbook Pro the 8GB will drastically reduce the resale value.

Many people think "Oh I am not doing any photo/video editing/coding so I dont need more than 8GB of RAM"

I have an M1 with 16GB and a 16" with 32GB - when running multiple tabs in chrome and safari I have 12-14GB of usage on my M1 and sometimes 26-28G of RAM usage on my 16".

Does this have the old keyboard keys that gave so many problems or the new, improved style?

Ditto. 8GB doesn't cut it anymore unless you do basic browsing with few tabs and checking email. 16GB standard for savvy computer user and 32GB for the extreme programming/coding uses, etc.

8 GB seems to be plenty for the Max M1s. Read the reviews the memory and cpu architecture.

For the vast majority of users 8GB is enough with the M1. It's not an apple to apples comparison with other chips. It's crazy how this comes up without fail every time there's a base M1 product deal.

My basic VS Code setup + chrome tabs (<10) uses 16GB of my 32GB RAM (14 inch pro), all left 16GB are used for file cache which speeds up the system. Please note, there is ZERO swap! MacOS is quite flexible: it tries to use up the RAM, but it is OK to have the limited 8G RAM, the general experience is still smooth.

Depends on your usage. M1 is great. M1 is better. M1 has the old design. Pro has an updated design with new screen etc. If you can spare the 800 keep the one you have.
