I have go 2 since last summer, the default shooting time is no way 15 seconds (only in the case of slow mo maybe)...continuous recording time in Pro Video mode is 10 minutes or 15 minutes in standard mode.
It does get hot after 10 to 15 minutes but cools down quickly and is ready to shoot again in a minute or two.
I have a two gopro 8, but when it comes to utility, nothing comes close to go 2. Gopro is better suited for more extreme sports, but is way heavier than go 2. This thing sticks to your cloth or hat without looking intrusive...I take kids' videos all the time, I don't think I ever needed to record more than 10 minutes to capture the precious moments.
$200 is a steal.
Now, did they market it like that because they failed to overcome the issue of overheating or did they overlook overheating because they truly intended this to be used for short clips?
Unknown, but either way yes, it's kinda a failure.

but I can't recommend it at all. My big gripe isn't battery life, overheating, or limited storage (like most) but that the record button is too sensitive and this camera is wildly unreliable in my experience. The image quality is horrendous without a lot of post production work, and you'll need to use the insta360 ap or program on your computer to get any usable "high quality" footage. FWIW I make action sports videos for a living, and I hate GoPros with a passion. Compared to this camera, though, I'd take a GoPro.

One of the biggest gripes for me is the file transfer. At launch it wouldn't let you just extract direct from the camera via cable. Had to be through Wi-Fi transfer. I forget if this is possible now or if there are work arounds.
If you want to rely on this alone for a trip, better off getting a GoPro with expandable storage and swappable batteries. This is really tiny though and is a lot easier to carry around or wear. It comes with a magnetic necklace attachment and a ball cap clip mount that is also magnetic. It's very low profile and you can get a darker skin for the camera if you want to stand out less.
It beats having to take your smartphone out and record something. Literally just tap or double tap to whatever you set it to. You can even customize the actions so double tap becomes record and single tap becomes photo or vice versa. You don't even need to boot it on as you can set it to record or take a photo immediately from off.
You can set different record or photo modes when it's on too. The camera can also be controlled from the charging unit. Just mount the camera somewhere magnetically by itself or with a mount, walk away and hit record from the charger.
I wouldn't rely too much on the magnets for any rough activities like mountain biking but custom mounts for these are small and you can get some nice angles without needing too much space.
