does anyone have a recommendation on a laser mono printer that has scan capabilities and duplex, tempted to get this to replace my dell laser but I have to scan stuff every now and then

Just keep the one you currently use to scan and only use it for scanning. That way you don't have to deal with ink for it.

Bought one of these at an estate sale for $5 a while back ago. Great printer if you only want to print. I bought WorkForce Pro WF-4833 for $129 on sale last year from Walmart. It's inkjet but has scanning, fax, ADF, two-sided printing, wireless, and more. You can't really get MFP's laser printers for cheap. The one I wanted was Canon imageCLASS MF743Cdw but it was out of stock everywhere and also $529.99. A cheaper monochrome MFP would be a nice option.

Still in the box, but I did buy 2 of these last summer for about the same price from Walmart for my girlfriend and her mother and they have had no problems. Heads up... use the app to set these up and you will have a much easier install.

I bought a Brother HL2280DW multifunction laser printer 8 years ago and it's still going strong. It prints fast, scans great and is cheap to own.

Brother does make updated versions that can hold up to 250 documents to automatically scan at one time. That feature and the lack of fax are all that's missing from mines but I'm extremely happy with it.
