That is pretty funny. Plastic watches that aren't even sold out. It's like the PS5 all over again.
It's wild. The swatch site even says it's not a limited edition and they're going to be regularly produced indefinitely.

Quartz is great if you want a set it and forget it mentality. Much more accurate and Cheaper maintenance. Usually are less thick than a mechanical as well. Can be more durable with less worries. A quartz watch technically does a better job of telling you the time. Mechanical watches though are more like a piece of art. There is craftsmanship that goes into making a mechanical watch (some much more than others). If you do not care much about that part, go quartz. To me, the biggest part of this deal is sapphire. Any time you can get sapphire near this price point it is worthwhile. I own some mechanical watches and some quartz watches. I often grab my trusty tag formula 1 quartz. It looks good, is always ready to go, and can take a beating.

If you own multiple watches or go several days between wearing them, your quartz will likely be more reliably ready to wear. They're also generally more accurate compared to mechanicals <$500 or so

My Alpina startimer is a pita to set. Instead of swapping watches by day I've started to do it by month.

Not in the market but this is a great price for a Tissot chronograph. I've looked at this watch many times over the years and not sure I've seen it ever below $200 (from memory). Yes it's quartz, I know. So what

This! My Tag 2000 is nearing 25 years old, and has never missed a beat in that time (other than obviously needing the occasional battery replacement). Keeps great time (better than an Automatic would), never needs winding, and doesn't stop working if I don't wear it for a few days like an Automatic would.

Sure, it's not as "cool" as an Automatic - but who cares?

This isn't, but neither is the MoonSwatch (it's quartz). The question that was being answered is whether Tissot makes an automatic, and they do, but this isn't it
I started "collecting" watches a few years ago but, being a slickdeals guy, my collection has mostly sub $400 watches. I know you don't get great watches until around $5k but this budget range works for me.
I now have about 12 ranging from a cheap $25 Timex to a $2k Ferragamo.
As expected, most of them are quartz, but they work for me in terms of what they offer:
1) A jewelry piece that looks good and enhances your wardrobe. This is the primary reason I buy watches.
2) Quality feel on your wrist
3) The satisfaction of owning and wearing something with details you can appreciate (like looking at how the light bounces off the crystal and details on the dial).
4) Different designs with intricacies you can appreciate. Getting lost in the world of watch designs is a hobby in itself.

In today's world, telling time is a quick look at your phone. You really have to ask yourself why you pay hundreds or thousands for a time keeping device less accurate than your phone. What value do you get out of it?
So far, I love my higher end quartz watches. My fave is the Movado Series 800. I paid $350 for it several years ago. It's now around 1.2k!

I absolutely want an automatic to own an intricate machine. However, I've only bought 2 cheap ones to play with. I love the technical look of Chronographs but automatic chonos of any value start in the $3k-5k range.

All that said, I'm looking to buy a decent automatic. There are 2 Swiss made Tissot automatic deals going on now. What do you guys think of them?
1) Tissot Ballade III for $363 (https://www.nordstromrack.com/s/t...mm/6171096).
2) Tissot Le Lochle for $246 (https://www.nordstromrack.com/s/t...mm/6107491).

Both are 39mm (a bit smaller than my standard 42mm but good for dress watches).

Don't get me wrong, this is totally gorgeous watch, although I might consider spending about twice as much to get the similar Bulova lunar pilot

I've got a few good watches, but tend to look towards the more interesting mechanisms, so the tuning fork watches on my list and maybe an el presidente, and I currently wear a spring drive most of the time

Yes, it's quartz, but after owning a Tissot automatic that will cost up to $200 to repair the movement (to accurately tell time again)... I'm okay with that .. esp when it's a chrono.

Generally, they're more accurate than automatic watches. There's also HAQ (High Accuracy Quartz) because quartz can vary too. Re: automatics, some people (e.g. me) feel weird buying a device that only does one thing and doesn't do it very well.

When I was shopping for a watch, I settled on a Longines Conquest V.H.P., which is HAQ and looks really nice (to me, at least). It is specced for +/- 5 seconds per year. Most automatics are specced for how many seconds they lose per day.

Some will argue that even a HAQ will be less accurate than an internet-connected phone. Also true. Looking at your wrist is faster, but a watch is primarily a form of jewelry in this day and age. I'd argue that the jewelry factor is even higher with an automatic watch, especially an expensive one.

My Husband's Dress Citizen eco-Drive just quit on him after 20 years and it's going to cost at least this much to fix it. He is a pretty rugged guy but liked a good dress watch on occasion. Would this be a good sub for it? (he is practical and would be upset if I paid over $200 for it, so this seems OK.)

I was interested in both of these watches and decided to go with the Ballade because to me it has a little more sporty looks which is more adapting to my daily attire.
The Ballade has a chronometer certified automatic movement which is by specification more accuracy (+- 4-6 seconds/day), power reserve at 80 hrs, and better water resistance at 50 meter.
The Le Lochle has a automatic movement with power reserve of 38 hrs, and water resistance rating at 30 meter. But it has bracelet instead of leather strap. That is usually $50 difference (it is always easier to find a leather strap if you want to change the looks of the watch later).
To me each watch has its own unique looks. And each is priced fairly according to its own specification.
Just want to share my thoughts as I did spend some times to research on both these.
PS: if you live by a Norstrom Rack store, just order both and try it on to see which one you like the most. then return the other one….Or keep both of themπŸ™‚πŸ™‚πŸ™‚πŸ‘

One other question:
I am comparing the same model on the TISSOT and Nordstrom site VS this one on the RACK.

The dial numbers are VERY different. Counterfeit???

I'm leaning towards the Ballade as well, but that dial pattern bothers me. It looks a bit...cheap. The newer version looks way better but they changed the ring around the dial to have a more Rolex look. Not a fan of that one either.

I'm looking at the Tissot gentleman watch now lol. Here's a great video comparing it to seiko presage https://youtu.be/ntgxme0rkZA.

Too many choices...but that's the fun in this hobby.
