Taken from a review, the requirements are a bit insane when you review them:

#1, to activate and be able to use these buds you HAVE TO download the Alexa app. Great, another app I will never use cluttering up my phone so that I can have the *privilege* of using the device I freaking own, this is already starting off badly...

#2, While setting up these buds the Alexa app *REQUIRES* that the buds be allowed to record your conversations and things happening in the world around you, and upload that to Amazon. This is downright CREEPY considering I bought these literally just to listen to some tunes while I mow the lawn. Did I mention that between the 2 buds, there are SIX microphones that will be recording you?

#3, To double down on the creep-factor, Amazon *requires* that the buds be able to record your location. Again, I just want to listen to some tunes on my lawn mower, I won't be using these for turn-by-turn directions or something in my car, so why am I *REQUIRED* to constantly report my every move to the Amazon mothership?

#4, Because the above aren't creepy enough, Amazon also requires that the buds be able to upload the names & phone numbers of ALL your phone contacts to our Amazon overlords. Can I again mention how insane it is that my friends and family's names and phone numbers must be handed over to Amazon in order for me to listen to trashy Miley Cyrus songs while I mow my lawn? Come on, this is ridiculous.

#5, If any of the above creep you out during setup, and you click 'Deny' on the permission, the Alexa app boots you back to the opening screen and disconnects your earbuds till you give in to Daddy Amazon's will.

I have Gen 1 and when they work, they work well.

One thing I absolutely HATE (and hope they fixed) is that if you use the buds with the wingtip and try to charge them in the case, there is some sort of fitment issue so that the buds do not make proper contact with the charging port sometimes. This means that you have a very large chance of the buds somehow not being charged by the case. On the other hand, it appears that the case keeps attempting to charge the buds improperly, thus draining the case, too.

It's frankly a ridiculous design because it requires the user to constantly have to remove the wingtips in order to guarantee proper charging of the case and the buds. Where are we supposed to put the wingtips during charging and not lose them?

I had my first pair of the first gen replaced under warranty very easily because one of the buds could not hold a charge. So at least that process was easy.

I don't think I would buy any new version of the Buds until this issue is rectified.

I bought these during the $1.98 app deal: https://www.amazon.com/OnePlus-Bu...YT25X?th=1 and would happily pay $50 for them if I lost it. They pair easily, work well, but don't have active noise cancelling.

Sounds similar to the Samsung Wearable's application needed to configure/update their earbuds. I created a guest account to try to isolate the application (which requests calendar, call logs, contacts, files/media, nearby devices, phone, SMS, and location permissions).

I think these are a good bit different than the Gen 1. Gen 1 are bulkier but the case is a little slimmer and the noise reduction is Bose branded. The new ones are supposed to be much more comfortable and charge via usb c. $49 feels like the right price for these, not MSRP.

I bought these and they are absolutely terrible. The ANC is so noisy. Highly recommend the Panasonic RZ-S500 earbuds which go on sale for around $50 occasionally. I'd recommend any earbuds over these Amazon ones.

In for a pair. Need something for cutting the yard. Score!

Hopefully these will be good replacements for my bum ass AirPods with 1 side working.

Also wondering if it's worth an upgrade. I have gen 1 and I do like them but they are a bit heavy and after a lengthy meeting hurt my ears. Wonder if the fit on these is better…
They are smaller, but not like insanely so. I like them but I think the 1st gen may have better cancelling / reduction imo.

I can't even tell when anc is active on these, but the sound quality is good. Still debating if they are worth $50 over some refurbs currently at best buy…

No, they were the worst earbuds I've ever tried.

Great news! Do you know if the wingtips are still included with gen 2?
