I just returned this, purchased from Amazon. The ghosting was to much for me and it has a flickering issue with freesync. Google this models flickering issue. Great price though.

From my research, anyone with only HDMI 1.4 output, like my current laptop, will be lucky to see 50hz refresh rate at best out of this. Beware
Why is this? According to this website HDMI 1.4 does provide 144Ghz refresh rate @ 1080P:

Does HDMI 1.4 support 144Hz at 1080p?
Yes, HDMI 1.4 can support up to 144Hz at 1920×1080. However, not all monitors with HDMI 1.4 necessarily do. Older 144Hz gaming monitors such as the Acer GN246HL, BenQ XL2411, BenQ XL2411Z, BenQ XL2430T, ASUS VG248QE, AOC G2460PF, etc are all limited to 60Hz over HDMI. Many monitors with HDMI 1.4 are also limited to 120Hz at 1080p. Moreover, most monitors with dedicated G-SYNC modules are limited to 60Hz over HDMI.

https://www.displayninja.com/whic...C3%971080.

According to the video review below the HDMI 2.0 port's refresh rates are limited to 100Ghz so you're better off using the DP ports if you want to obtain the highest refresh rate.

RTINGS review - https://www.rtings.com/monitor/re...yte/g34wqc
Video review - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C5FunMmbztw

Video review OP did a very thorough analysis and also indicated that the monitor is well calibrated out of the box. He did provide his suggested settings (see pic).

This is because graphics cards that only support HDMI 1.4 are older and doesn't have the bandwidth to support the higher refresh rate. Note that the info from displayninja.com that you posted concerns 144hz at 1920x1080. This monitor does 144hz at 3440x1440. That is over twice the number of pixels, which would necessitate an increase in bandwidth. If you scroll up on the displayninja site, you will find a chart that states HDMI 1.4 can only do 60Hz at 3440x1440.

Why the OP can only do 50Hz instead of 60Hz can be a number of factors including the quality of the cable used, limitations of the laptop's graphics adapter, driver settings/limits, etc.

video is not the greatest quality hand is a little shaky holding phone while swirling the mouse around. you can see how the white letters almost disappear though

edit - turning up the black equalizer setting seems to help some but then everything looks gray and dull

Check out my post above. I also provide a screenshot of settings that a video reviewer that I linked reccommends. According to the video reviewer you can reduce the level of ghosting/smearing if using the monitor @ a refresh rate of 144Ghz by changing the monitor's overdrive mode to "speed" in its settings menu.

Black smearing is an unfortunate issue with most VA panels. Conversly the benefit of VA panels is that you generally get really good contrast and deeper blacks.

From what I've read with this particular monitor the extent of black smearing is variable (some see it badly, others only see it a little) so there seems to be some QA manufacturing variance on Gigabyte's part. Black smearing sensitivity is especially problematic for individuals that enjoy playing a lot of fast paced games/FPS. From a productivity standpoint black smearing shouldn't be a big issue. If your'e sensitive to this you're better off getting a TN or IPS panel.

Most of the reviews that I've read discuss the original panel version for this monitor rather than the "A": version which is the version that is received with this deal and report black smearing as "minor." There's not a lot of informantion out there in regards to the difference between the two panels except that that the "A" panel has a better contrast ratio (increase of 3,000:1 to 4,000: 1) vs. the original. I'm not sure if the black smearing/ghosting is better/worse with the newer "A" panel vs. the original panel.

BTW you can test how bad a monitor's ghosting/smearing is by viewing the fast moving icon on this webpage: testufo.com/ghosting

im aware of everything mentioned. at this point i just dont know if this is the normal for it or if exchanging might get one with less smearing. one of the reviews said their first monitor was fine except a dead pixel. the replacement had no dead pixels but bad smearing. ive played with just about every setting now and the only thing that makes the black smear not as bad is jacking up the black equalizer or contrast but that makes everything dull and some text or images unreadable

i would be fine with some ghosting and smearing. honestly the ghosting isnt even bad imo. its just the black smearing is absolutely horrid. nowhere near as tolerable as a typical smearing or ghosting

In your first video-- with the "Advanced display settings" window-- I'm not sure if it's artifacts introduced by your camera/video compressing/youtube's compression, but the black smearing seems to be much worse than what I'm seeing on my monitor. The only difference is I'm running my monitor at 100hz 8-bit as opposed to your 144hz 10-bit.

I wonder if any of these solutions might help with VA smearing: https://www.displayninja.com/what...-smearing/

its def that bad, not the camera. smaller white letters basically disappear with a black background. the extra blurriness and bold white letters skipping around is just the camera. i use a black background and boarders on windows. if i have a chrome window open and drag it to the right the black smears a bit past the "x" close window button and the 3 dot drop down menu. same if i drag it to the left the smear goes past the back page arrow. an idea of how far its smearing.

its only really between black/gray and dark colors. if i drag a white window over a black background it doesnt smear into the white too bad. but there is what i would expect for a white halo ghosting trail. nothing i cant tolerate with the white ghosting though.

i have tried changing between 8/10bit, different refresh rates, dp 1.4 and 1.2 settings in monitor, hdmi 60/100hz. im convinced either this monitor is terrible and people just dont realize what theyre seeing or that i got a dud. if other people arent getting it as bad as mine ill try an exchange. dont wanna waste my time though if thats just the norm for this monitor
