With the war in Ukraine, one can imagine that Baltic Birch will soon be in short supply.

Menards has 8 footers on sale for $201 (reg $250), then 11% rebate check making them $180.

Also on sale:
4 foot $70
72x 36" wide for island use $199

Butcherblock also makes an excellent desk or workbench, just add legs.

About 100 pounds each, so bring a friend.

Remember, Menards rebate check looks like a junkmail postcard - don't let your spouse throw it away, lol

If you have never installed a butcherblock counter before, remember to install an Undermount sink, not a drop in.

No water or crumbs will collect along the edges of the sink, everything just sweeps cleanly away.

Good enough deal... however, I just don't trust these fabricated Butcher Block tops. The finger joint connection just isn't a good design for thick, short stock lumber imo.

Breaks my heart so see all the sawdust in your new sink. We just went through a similar remodel except with a stainless steel apron sink. That thing scratches up just from looking at it

It's a 40" pass through countertop mitered to a standard 25" counter on 2 sides.

Isn't Baltic birch a specific type of high-grade imported plywood? Consistent, thick, and void-free birch plies with even thicker face plies make for great plywood, but I'm not sure how the qualities of the actual lumber would make it particularly good as a solid.

Does anyone make consistently good plywood out of it?

Thank you for posting pictures so I know cheaping put on my new countertops isn't worth it.
We did that job for Counter Intelligence, so they probably charged $4,900 - especially with a 144x40" pass through slab

Baltic Birch has a 1200 hardness rating, so it's about as durable as Red Oak

Black Walnut or Cherry would be a 1000, and Maple is much harder @ 1400

They are all common woods for kitchen use
