FWIT "Hyper M.2 x16 is designed specifically for Intel Virtual RAID on CPU (VROC) and the AMD Ryzen Threadripper platform for NVMe RAID support and features four M.2 slots, providing up to 128 Gbps of bandwidth per card." "Your motherboard BIOS must support bifurcation of PCIe lanes"

I don't know if it would work on other platforms.

No. This is gen3
The purpose is simply to host multiple nvme drives on board that support pcie bifurcation.

P.S. pcie bifurcation is supported on many x570 boards primary x16 slot

I use this in quite a bit of builds, can confirm that it works on other platforms, the bigger issue when not used in HEDT is that not all bios/boards support bifurcation properly.

Will this work on my old mobo from 2012 with Intel i7-4770¿ It has pcie,x16 slot. Just need it for expanded storage. Don't need full speed or raid . Have a few smaller 128 and 256 nvme drives from upgrades lying around.

I don't think it's supported. You need the PCIe bifurcation, which I don't think is on your generation of board.

At first in my head, I was downplaying the usefulness of this item, however, after some thought, this adapter might actually come in handy purposing it for my office PC that's stuck on the X58 platform.

is there anything like this that supports older generation mobo (or at least more universally compatiable).

don't need to be the fastest but just ability to add 4x m.2 nvme drives to the system.

Heat sink. Requires chipset, motherboard, and BIOS with PCIe bifurcation support.

That's the cover.....
And no, only works with m.2 with supported Mobo.
Thank you both. I have a AMD 1000 series Ryzen with Asus B450M Plus Gaming MB which is listed in the compatible boards. So, I am eligible to Slickdeal it. But I don't really need it. I can't get happiness in life through random buying spree laugh out loud
My OS is already on an onboard m.2 slot storage.

if you are buying this and you don't have an HEDT platform (like x399, x299, trx40, etc), just know that not all boards support PCI-E bifurcation, which this adapter REQUIRES. MSI motherboards are all trash and pretty much never support anything like that. very few gigabyte boards support it.

asus supports it on MOST of their motherboards, however, a lot of asus boards will limit you to 2-3 SSDs with this card. very few will support 4.

this card doesn't actually have a controller on it. all it does it split a single x16 lane into four 4x lanes.
