How to check your local CostCo B&M inventory, the old fashioned way, using a phone and human interaction!
1) Call your local warehouse https://www.costco.com/warehouse-locations
2) After the COVID announcement, press option 1
3) Ask if they have item 1507486 in stock or at another nearby warehouse?

1. Sometimes another airline is cheaper
2. Buying from third-party website is cheaper
3. Amex has offer which requires $300 payment on the credit card etc
4. Buying with airline miles is a better option (especially the fly date is closer).
5. Credit card points (CSR).
it makes me think twice before stocking any airline gift card anymore, considering that I only fly ~4 round trips per year. But I guess for others they may feel the deal is more useful.

Whether these funds are in your wallet or kept as a gift certificate, they can only be used for new tickets and can't be used for ancillary fees like premium class seats, but you can buy those with a credit card in the same transaction. The new ticket restriction doesn't really matter much because as long as you book main cabin or higher, you can just cancel single legs without any trouble for full wallet credit; there isn't really any reason to "change" tickets vs. cancel and book a new reservation anymore.
