Might as well just buy a car seat from buybuybaby and use their 20% off coupon all day long. Buybuybaby also have a stackable promo running currently on car seats…$25 reward if you spend $100, $50 reward if you spend $200, etc.

Edit: the additional MyFund reward promo ended 2 days ago. The same promo comes back every month or two from what I've seen so far.
I would assume new safety regulations and plastic deterioration are some reasons...also....I'm sure there is some greed weaved in there as well
Better than 0%

my city's sanitation department has been dumping recyclables into regular landfill since last year, due to "the pandemic".... as of March, they're still doing it... Frown
I thought that was because China stopped taking our recyclables?

But cars don't expire in 7 years.
Don't worry, car manufacturers are working on this as we speak.

I wonder if any other stores are going to start doing this again? I know Walmart did theres in the fall and they gave out a gift card. I've been holding onto my expired car seat since c vid started, waiting for Walmart to bring it back.

Anyone know for sure if the coupon works on booster seats? It says "car seats" which should work but I'd like to be sure before I bother waiting for this
Yes. I bought boosters last year with the coup. It's the same wording and deal this year

Bought 2 extra Uppababy car seat bases off FB marketplace for cheap, can we just trade in the bases without the car seat?

They've already done it....they're called "Electric Vehicles".

Also hopefully everyone understands they're just throwing these old seats in a dumpster. It's not economical at all to separate the dozen different metals, fabrics and plastics and do anything resembling recycling with them.

They expire for a number of reasons, including wear and tear, changing regulations, recalls, and the limits of manufacturer testing. This goes for any number of safety equipment as well, like helmets for motorcycling (which I recall should be replaced every 5 years).
Hmm. Is my 2008 Camry "expired" too? Or are the plastic, vinyl, metal, and nylon components in vehicles of fundamentally different composition than those found in carseats?

With all this talk of expired car seats being ok, does anyone have experience with trying to get hospital bills related to a car crash for their child paid for by insurance if their kid was sitting in an expired seat (including when it's completely the other driver's fault and the driver has fully loaded insurance)?

Hope that never happens to anyone, but in the context of not having medical bills paid for (and knowing that you did everything you could to protect your child), a new car seat seems pretty cheap to me.
That is a complete load of fear-mongering bull crap. Manipulative smoke detector salespeople used to use the same horrible arguments: "Do you want to buy our overpriced smoke detectors? Or buy our competitor's model for 1/3 of the price…and risk your children burning alive in their beds…?"

Any experience on what type of items the 20 % off works on besides car seats / strollers?

I am travelling here with a old baby seat I got at target in October and won't need to take it home so I'm happy I can recycle it shame it's not 20% off anything. If anyone on Oahu wants a free seat hit me up it's barely used but the airline did tear it on the corner

Regarding expiration on child car seats: if you've been using one that's way past the date for your child, then that's your choice. But if for some reason, the seat fails, do on blame the manufacturer b/c you will not have case, and same goes for car insurance. There are a lot of inexpensive seats under $100. For those who do not have children, nor have car seats on their, should not be even chiming in on this thread. As for those who mentioned about lawn furniture and outdoor kids toys being made of same plastics as car seats, well guess what, people don't strap their kids to those inside the car. And plastics inside cars are mostly for aesthetics. I wouldn't buy a car that's held together by plastics.

If your Camry is structurally built with plastics you might want to contact Toyota ASAP.

There's a high chance your dashboard is melted from heat/UV though. There was an extended warranty for 2008+ Camry since the problem was so prevalent (had the dash in my 2010 replaced by Toyota due to this problem)
