just a heads up for everybody who orders these as it comes up every time.

many people complain saying these must be expired because they smell literally "like garbage". that is because they use Ethyl Alcohol, not Isopropyl Alcohol ("rubbing alcohol") that most people are familiar with.

Ethyl alcohol is derived from plants (almost always from corn) so it can sometimes smell like fermented organic compounds, similar to the smell some people associate with "garbage".

It's not too bad and obviously won't affect performance as that smell is literally just the active ingredient... but if you take a big whiff expecting that "sharp stingy" smell of rubbing alcohol, you won't get that.

So I just found that these are awesome for home projects! If I drip any paint somewhere accidentally these clean it right up, I also like to get the wipe a little damp and use it to clean up caulking edges and smooth them out. They clean up tools well too!

These are non-woven synthetic wipes in (iirc) 75% ethyl alcohol with water. There are no other ingredients and, as such, these are great for clean up. I use them for 3D printing to wipe off the FDM print bed as well as to clean up SLA resin, tools, my gloves, and the FEP/resin tank (I used a paper towel to clean it on day one and it has light scratching from that; these do not appear to have made it worse but I can't guarantee they're perfect). If they dry out, you can pour an ounce of isopropyl into the bag and just keep reusing them for cleanup tasks.

Personally, I'm waiting for sales on cases of nitrile gloves to come back. I'm about done with the case I bought 4 years ago for $1.50 a box.

Do these wipes have that kind of awful, off-putting smell to them that some of the hand cleaners do?

I still have 58 packs from the last sale. My local church is also giving these out at masses. I guess they have to much extra that is expiring soon and the pandemic is coming to an end.

I use them to wipe kitchen counter, stovetop and all around the apt.
I'm thinking it could be the supplies that were back logged from shipping delays and are expiring soon.

Oof. Thanks. I think wipes like these are great but that particular smell just hits the wrong note. I believe it's the type / content of alcohol. First time I came across it when using a store's public hand sanitizer I thought something was wrong with it or that it had gone rancid.

You think nitrile gloves will come back costing less? I hope so.

Harbor Freight has deals on nitrile gloves. Also, Walgreens might have decent price if you purchase online for store pickup.

yup, i explained it above. this is the difference between ethyl alcohol vs isopropyl alcohol.

it's not too bad with these wipes, but if that smell bothers you, avoid santizers containing "ethyl alcohol" and look for isopropyl or denat (denatured) alcohol.

technically ethyl alcohol can also be listed as "denat alcohol" but generally when you see "denat alcohol", it will be "regular alcohol" without that odd smell

True - a lot of the corn ethanol producers had batches with notes of sulfur (rotten egg). FWIW, mine are not. Anyone who has ever used Everclear (190 proof "vodka") will recognize the smell of Ethyl alcohol. Opening the first pack brought back memories of college punch bowls and spiked watermelons we used to take to concerts.

I always got mine at Costco. It was $20 for 2x boxes of 200 (400 total). When the pandemic hit they went out of stock and seemingly never came back. Then some months ago I saw them in the store and just grabbed a couple of boxes because I had been out for some time by then. It wasn't until I was checking out that I realized the price had gone up to $29.99. It was still a better price than anywhere else just kept them.

Dang these keep getting cheaper. Just make sure you seal them all the way when you close it otherwise they will dry out quickly (due to alcohol).

Honestly I've had even the individually "wrapped" Purell wipes completely evaporate (like they were dried and hardened when I eventually tried to use them) that were older than the expiration date by a bit(probably by about 2 years). Those would have had a much better sealed than a big count of 80 wipes like this packaging.
