This is a substantial deal if you don't care about the display quality and want an inexpensive budget gaming laptop. I believe it also has a SATA slot so that you can throw in an old SSD drive for extra storage.

The CPU is excellent for the price. Here's a comparison with my target CPU for a new laptop: the Core i7 11800H and this 6-core Core i5-11400H:

Notebookcheck Review:

Sadly, I need a screen that has full sRGB coverage. I wish this model had it.

If you need a laptop to lay on your desk using an external monitor for most of its life, you might want to consider this for the money.

Peace

Solid deal for a budget gaming laptop. Just purchased a ASUS TUF F17 with the same CPU, 3050Ti and only 8GB or RAM for $800 (that was $200 off MSRP).

I think this model has 100% sRGB. If it says 72% ntsc, that usually means around 100% sRGB.

Yes, you're correct. I think @pugboy75 did not notice the Display specification. In fact this may be only one laptop available at this price point with a high quality 144Hz IPS Display with 100% sRGB. Most laptops you see at this price with decent configuration are either having 60 Hz display or those poor 250-nits 45% NTSC 120Hz displays.

Notebookcheck shows 62% coverage of sRGB on the panel.

Does not necessary that one of the two is correct. A specific series can have multiple Display options. For example consider Dell G15 Laptop which can have a 120Hz 250 nits 45% NTSC display or a 300-nits 100% sRGB 165Hz Display with remaining specification exactly same.

Gigabyte G5 GD is the series here it can have multiple display options for different sub models under it. This specific model # is G5 GD-51US123SO and Newegg also lists this as 72% NTSC display. It is highly unlikely that both of these sellers having wrong info about the display.https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16834233504

So, in B&H as well:

What would be a good monitor to pair with this laptop? I just ordered one I don't play high end games just older online and would like to play some modern ones that it can handle.

If you're asking because of the earlier comment suggesting that it has a bad display, then I wouldn't worry about it too much. If you meant to ask in a general sense, I would suggest sticking with a 1080p monitor, because the RTX 3050 is going to be stressed on anything higher. This thing does not have good thermals, so if you try to push 1440p, it is going to run pretty hot.

Would the 3060 for 150 more be a better buy?

A lot of these sellers have the rtx 3060 model wattage incorrect. They list the watts as 75 watts, but really it's 105 watts.

If you know specifically that what you want to run can be easily handled by the RTX 3050 at the resolution and settings you want, then I think it's fine. Anything besides that, or if you want minor future-proofing, the RTX 3060 with its 6GB of VRAM is going to be a much safer option.

My daughter only really plays Roblox stuff and I have been playing a old game FFXI online. I would like to be able to hook up a 4k monitor for media and other stuff but not for gaming.
