Yes, finally something I actually pay for
i hope everyone here knows of the 2 loopholes on this...

1 is United travel bank
2 is Jet blue flights between a certain amount. I believe $84-132. ANd then you can cancel and get that money put into your jet blue travel bank.

Ignorant...

For many these benefits don't add up, and they shouldn't hold this card. For many they do...

$200 Uber/Uber eats
$200 airline incidental(multiple loopholes to get full value on this, even if you travel just a few times a year)
$240 this credit. It's not the greatest but many can get full value.
$200 hotel credit(this is probably the most useless one for a few good reasons so will leave this out of final tabulation)
$179 clear credit(for those of us that have airports that have clear this is solid. I'm in nyc and it saves me literally an hour min at any given tsa line)
$100 saks 5th (they have things that sell for $50 bucks that you can easily cash in on. I don't buy clothes every other week, i literally just got a set of 12 kielbasas from there for $50 bucks, will do again in summer for bbq)
$300 equinox credit. Not for everyone, and I don't use it, but many will utilize it.

That's just the cash bits.

You get status at hotels, for many road warriors that's worth a lot.
Walmart+ for free. That's ~12 bucks a month, or $145 a year if you use that service
Centurion lounge access. Worth 100s of bucks for those that travel a lot.

Probably missing a few. Short of it is, if you travel even fairly casually, this is a card that you get money back on. If you are a full on road warrior, this card is a must have in the pocket.

I don't have any amex card, what's the go-to one to apply for? Credit is not a problem

I just signed up for the platinum only because of the 150k bonus points. platinum is the way to go if you travel a lot (and book directly with hotels/airlines) otherwise I'd say stick with the gold. My biggest gripe is that the platinum perks are spread too thin. I just switched from the CSR before my annual fee. I'll likely be switching back in a few years.

Surprised this wasn't asked earlier... what is the best package to maximize value (commercial free)? Does anything bundle together?

It's worth it if you can make it work. Free Walmart+ is $155/year, $200/year in Uber Credits, $240/year in streaming credits where you can now get the Disney Bundle, $200 airline credit alone is $795. Plus there's other perks, you get access to Amex Lounges in airports, etc.
You forgot $200 hotel credit

I lumped that into "other perks." It's honestly a bit hard to use if you know what you're doing with luxury hotels and paying cash price via Amex's FHR program is often not the best way to book hotels.

plus $100 credit per card on an account for Global Entry/Precheck every 4.5 years. That alone saved me $400 in my first year. The card definitely isn't for everyone but if you fit the profile you can benefit from the perks.

There's a way to do it if your selected airline is Delta and you're willing to plan ahead and jump through some hoops. I've used my $200 for flights the last couple years.

I'd love to know how

i'll go a step further. Many believe it's only for hardcore travelers. I disagree. If you can max out the uber credit and the airline credit, and get value out of this credit, it's a money maker for damn near anyone that flies even a 2-3 times a year.

As a hardcore churner I am a lot more tuned into these things, but the average consumer looks at the annual fees of some of these cards and automatically scoffs. Gotta do just a little bit of a deeper dive to see whats what. Again, not for everyone, but if you have the ability to front that steep annual fee and fly a few times a year and use uber or uber eats, you're making money back on that Annual fee.
