Not great and not super bad either. Ok laptop for a kid or senior. Basic tasks like movies, browsing the web and some homework are okay on this device.

What's with giving kids and seniors a lame shit? 4GB of RAM is barely the minimum even on a Chromebook... Also, plenty of better options with 10th gen Intel and expandible storage/memory at this price or below, or for $30 more the 8GB of ram version of this.

Because neither group typically pushes a computer to its limit and kids are likely to destroy things so handing them a more expensive laptop might be an unwise decision?

Windows 10 (or 11 with a fresh coat of paint) shipped in 2015. LOL, you do realize that 4GB of RAM was pretty darn decent on a laptop 7 years ago? Tell me, what has changed? Or are you encoding hi def video in the background?

Not sure why people keep repeating the nonsense that "4GB is barely the minimum." Do you guys not know to uninstall the 37 bloatware programs that come with new PC's???? That 4GB is more than enough for anything this machine was DESIGNED for. You don't judge a Honda Civic for its towing ability....not sure what you think this Windows tablet was designed to do but clearly you have unrealistic expectations.

Show us. Oh, and make sure it also is a slim formfactor, has a 1080P display, includes a touch screen with pen input, and is convertible to a tablet....."at this price or below." LOL, the nonsense that gets regurgitated here...

Are you okay? The only one spouting total nonsense here is you...

A fresh install of a 64bit operating system like Windows or Chrome leaves you with a couple hundred MEGABYTES of free RAM on any 4GB system.

"more than enough" Hahaha, for real, rethink this...

Buddy, this very Lenovo Flex 5 series has been on sale with double the RAM and or storage for $20 less at B&H and Costco, just a couple of weeks ago, both with 10th and 11th gen Intel CPUs, let alone regular laptops with similar specs, but with expandable memory.

Just erase your foolish take...

I should of been clearer. If you are on a budget then yes this is an okay deal. If you have $$ to spend then definitely go with something better

And it also eats all the cereal in the cupboard. LOL, something is wrong if your PC is using 3.5 gb of ram on idle. Betting you confuse a "fresh install" of Windows with a factory reset. And yes, I could imagine that much RAM being used with all the bloatware installed by default.

Right now my work laptop (Windows 10 64 Bit) is using 6.1 gb after being open all day. That is with MS Teams (1gb there), Office (600mb), VPN, virus scanners, firewall, 3 different Cisco programs, OneDrive actively syncing (550mb), etc all running...while running 3 monitors. Not to mention all of the other corporate silliness and IT related stuff that is in the background. Someone buying a $300 Windows tablet is probably not going to be doing all that crap at one time, if they are and expect a good time, then they'd be just as unreasonable as you.

(Oh, and please no one mention the paging file....that will blow his mind.)

So how did Windows 10 64 bit work 5-7 years ago when 2gb was pretty standard on a low end laptop? Did people just use NotePad back then?

Oh, you mean the one for $540 or perhaps the one for $600? Or the one with the older processor running the free Chrome OS? And we aren't talking "regular" laptops. Of course more money can go to hardware if you strip out the tablet interface and pen screen. No duh. You can also get a desktop that will run circles around all of these things but that too would be completely off subject.

Don't worry about the haters. Software is written to take advantage of the available memory. So Chrome will put tabs into memory so you can swap between them quickly. Which is fine if you either don't have a ton of tabs or have a lot of memory. In general though, you can get by OK with 4GB of RAM using an SSD for caching, and ideally using low memory browsers or not keeping a bunch of tabs open.

I was a kid when I bought my first CPU and GPU, a Pentium 4 and GeForce 4 Ti, at Fry's Electronics to build my first gaming PC, so you really need to tone it down with the dumb attitude...

Again, open the links, check the dates, the model, the specs, and stop trying to make shit up to win some argument.

Also, currently using the 17.3" Asus Chromebook that was on sale for $150 just days ago, and Chrome OS needs 75% of 4GB of RAM just to run, same with the Lenovo 10e, Acer Spin 513.

On Windows 10/11 I had to upgrade the 4GB with a stick of RAM to 12GB on the $269 Asus VivoBook 15 that was on sale a month or so ago, even after a clean install to Windows 11.

Yeah, the INSTALL where you get a flash drive, media creation tool, wipe partitions... I get it...

I tend to agree with you. Most people use their poor PC management skills as a "bare minimum of what's needed".

A well-tuned install of Windows 10 Pro works fine with 4GB of RAM, how do I know? I'm using one to type this reply and I know of at least 4 or 5 other machines doing just fine with 4GB of RAM that are being used every day. Hell, I had an old laptop running pretty good with 2GB not that long ago although I wouldn't recommend that.

It simply has to do with expectations and understanding what most users are doing. Watching Netflix or opening 5 or 10 tabs in Chrome does not require 8GB of RAM.

On the other hand, If you're a person running heavy processor intense applications 8/16/32GB is for you. I have an old i3 laptop running a lean install of Windows 10 Pro that has 8GB of RAM with an SSD that can easily edit several projects in PhotoShop and other associated apps simultaneously along with an X264 encoding job running in the background without feeling taxed. Would I want to do this type of work with 4GB of RAM? Simple answer. NO.

Again let me reiterate if money is no object get 8GB or 16GB and enjoy the benefits. But the idea that 4GB "won't work" is not a truism, it's just a knee-jerk response that's said because it makes the person feel informed without necessarily being so.

First of all, this isn't even a good deal for a reason, look at the very recent prices for the 8GB of RAM variants I just posted links to.

So yeah, people should stay way of from this.

For less money, or a few bucks more, you don't have to worry about "poor PC management skills" or "well tuned installs of Windows 10 Pro".

No, I am well informed, which is why I'm telling people to buy the 8GB of ram variant, which was actually CHEAPER, days ago.

EDIT: I used to like having old machines going by running debloated versions of Windows, running my scripts, and utilities etc.

BUT $320 for 4GB of soldered RAM with NO expansion slot, is not a deal in 2022.

Every time you see a lame machine like this, you have people saying that it's good for kids or seniors, the very people that aren't experienced in running a "well tuned" machine, or have these so called "PC management skills" Hahaha...

BTW, the only reason we still have 4GB of RAM on these 11th Gen Intel i3 CPUs is to purposely cripple it's use case and performance at MSRP. The 11th Gen i3 is as fast as some of the desktop i7 CPUs from just couple of years ago.

With all due respect, I take your comments seriously, as you would have noticed I included caveats in my response which you may or may not have read but that's neither here nor there. 8GB is preferred, I don't think anyone is saying "get 4GB instead of 8GB".

What you seem to be doing is using strawmen to make your argument. I ask you to please be more explicit with your alternatives.

Be specific about what was "actually CHEAPER, days ago". Please list the price and model number etc of this touchscreen Windows laptop you can get with 8GB of RAM cheaper.

That's the least you should be doing if you feel so strongly that similar 8GB laptops are so easy to find.
