Considering the RAM being soldered I can only say that this is geared towards the elderly or kids. It's a great media consumption device on which you can do very light office work and check emails.

This would be better in almost every way except for the screen brightness and color gamut. The Fire HD Plus (that's what you're referring to right?) reaches an average brightness of 350 nits and max brightness of around 450 nits! Almost double of the Lenovo over here. sRGB is also 97% on the Fire HD, much better than the Flex, but the contrast is pathetic on the former.

However, if you're in to reading then doesn't the font/text on fire HD bother you? As the ppi is less and text reportedly appears blurry. If that's the case, the flex over here would be a good enough upgrade.

Coming back to your question, I wouldn't consider it a really big upgrade only in terms of screen, except for the improved sharpness/clarity of the text. I'm in to comics too (hard copies) but I think I'd prefer reading them digitally on a tablet than a heavy laptop in my hands or on my lap.

I use a Fire HD 10.1 for ONLY reading digital comics, would this be a big upgrade due to screen size?

What is the designer thinking about? This could be a great computer only if they had an extra RAM slot...

Bought this at $300 not too far back, I was very skeptical of the 4GB ram and the fact that it's not upgradable. However, I've been very pleased with it, and this coming from a guy that builds gaming PCs and is used to performance. Treat it the right way and it's perfectly fine. I've used it a ton for media consumption, regular web browsing, and for cloud streaming with Game Pass (through Edge browser, not XBox app, works better that way). Honestly my biggest gripe is the screen doesn't get very bright, but at this price point it's totally acceptable.

If you ONLY use it for reading comics, you would probably not enjoy it. This is not a fan-less design and much heavier. Also, in terms of battery life, Intel chip should be worse than ARM-based counterparts.

I mainly use a Fire HD 10.1 (2019) for streaming & media consumption. Not long ago, I sold a very similar IdeaPad Flex 5 Chromebook 13.3" i3-10110u (originally intended as an upgrade for a larger screen) because of the weight (2.98lbs) and not so bright 250nits display.

I would only consider this if I have the need to use Windows application occasionally.

Alternatively, you may take a look of 128GB Lenovo Tab P11 Plus Android Tablet: 11" 2000x1200, Helio G90T, 4GB RAM deal earlier and Lenovo Tab P11 Plus Tablet [lenovo.com] It may be on sale again later.

Non-backlit KB
65W Round Tip (2-pin, Wall-mount) charger include, though also chargeable via USB-C port

Only support 1 M.2 SSD (occupied), though probably you could replace it with a larger capacity.

One of the best processors at this price point + FHD touch. If only the RAM was upgradable.

Yeah this thing is a joke. If you have soldered ram, you better have at least 16gb of ram. I'm not sure what this computer is good for? It's only good as a media consumption device. But then why have a touch screen and pen on it? You're not going to want to do homework or work on Adobe photoshop with such weak specs.

Probably the designer thought paging (moving least recently used memory blocks to secondary disk when out of memory) to SSD is fast enough so that users don't feel the difference. Maybe that is true for the most of the light users.
