This, or the 18tb elements drive for 339?

the shuckable helium drive is 5900 rpm, and fairly quiet, but with less warranty.

The Elements drive will fail way sooner than the Red.

The 16TB Red Pro and 16TB Golds are still $299.99 on the WD directly. Been $299.99 for a while.

16tb Gold www.westerndigital.com/products/internal-drives/wd-gold-sata-hdd#WD161KRYZ [westerndigital.com]

16tb Red Pro http://www.westerndigital.com/pro...#WD161KFGX

I guess if you have Amazon CC / Giftcards that's enticing to order on Amazon.

WD Direct you could potentially get decent cashback as well.

Not that it matters... but build date for the Gold I received was like early to mid 2021. Maybe they just had an excess.
March 11 I got the 12TB Red Pro from WD for $260 after extra 10% (abandoned cart discount) off $300.. I don't recall the 16TB being anywhere near $300 or I would have gotten it. Price may have dropped a few days later.

Wow —All of this and 7200 rpm. I can't wait until this comes down to my hard drive budget of $125 . Oh well maybe next month.

Why is this, inferior parts? Has there been a study on this? I've been running > 20 helium Easyshucks for a few years now and only had one 10TB puke. Good thing it was in RAID 6.

I doubt there's many differences besides firmware.

QNAP seems to get hit by ransomware quite a bit. I wouldn't recommend a QNAP device. I have heard good things about TrueNAS and Synology.

I got 2 gold 16 tb drives from the deal a few months ago for my unraid build. I have had no issues with the drives and performance is pretty good. Don't forget the the paypal 12% cash back if decide to grab one of these but you have to purchase from Wd.com. Same price as Amazon. Launch the paypal app, go to deals section, search western digital, and click shop now. Pay with paypal and should get the gold points in couple of months. I did this and when I got the gold drives in February and now have my gold points. 6700 points

That's an assumption given no red pro drive data is available and golds (higher spec) have a known high failure rate

I have had elements drive last 8 years and then rotate out and sell on cl or offerup.

It all depends what you use it for and lifelong writes....

How/where does one see that 12% cash back? Sorry, don't use PayPal much and never got into their cash back

Pretty decent deal. In before Taiwan gets taken over? Too early?
