Nice deal if you need a monster sized Chromebook. The N4500 and 1080 screen sound like a nice combo.

Serious question - what are the real world applications of these big chromebooks? Someone who needs a basic, but desktop replacement device for web, etc?

I answered this a bit in my last reply but I will expand. If you're a couch surfer these are good to just have laying around. Or like you said, setup in a semi-permanent place. Mine doesn't replace my desktop nor does it replace my smaller Chromebook. I like that it is easily portable but I would tote it to work or class and back home everyday, if that makes sense. So it moves from room to room every few days and that's fine. The one I bought my older mother will stay on a table seeding torrents and she will use it for video and streaming services as well as occasionally surfing. She could move it when necessary but it would probably be cumbersome for her. But it is nice knowing she can move it herself if she needs to vs a desktop which she would not. So those are the advantages.
Thanks, I appreciate the thoughtful response.

It's good for media consumption and web base work. Screen is big and good color and loud speakers. Good for small desk since you don't need bulk of a big monitor and desktop.

The cpu/gpu is noticeable better than those 14 and 15" Chromebook you see selling g from 150 to $200

Yup, just sent this to an elderly friend of mine that's still using an old Acer 15" Chromebook and he went ahead and ordered one. He just keeps it on a desk so this should be perfect.

It's fantastic for reading PDF pages in side-by-side mode. Together with its long battery life and passive cooling, you'll never worry about how much power it is eating up idling while you are coding away on another laptop.

Yep I got this for my elderly father and he loves it. Perfect for his use case. It sits on his tray right by where he chills out on the couch most of the day and he doesn't have to put on his lenses to use it with all the real estate it affords. The speakers on this are seriously good and the screen is fantastic for its price.

even if it doesnt, 189 for this computer is a great deal. The screen looks better than many 100$ monitors and the computer works completely fine with anything up to 4k video streaming.
