Bought it the last time for 149 and I'm very happy with it

I teach Computer Science and almost jumped on this last time. However at $180, you should look for a Chromebook with a touchscreen even if the screen is a little smaller and/or the price is a little higher.
Many apps (think STEM) are geared toward touch-enabled devices which makes for a superior experience for kids. Sadly, kids are keyboard/mouse inept.
For adults relying on cloud services, a larger screen equals greater productivity.
As a STEM teacher, I disagree with only using touchscreen devices. Yes, tablets and phones are omniscient, but I don't think trackpads and mice will disappear. Maybe this comment will age poorly, but trackpads and mice allow for things like right click. I can't imagine programming with a touchscreen. Typing on an onscreen keyboard is a nightmare. Also, what does it say about us as teachers if we allow students to give up because something is difficult? Using a trackpad or mouse improves fine motor skills. I am so disappointed when I see students holding up devices to their mouths to do speech-to-text because they're too lazy to type or attempt to spell correctly. With text-to-speech, we might as well get rid of the written language if that's what's acceptable. I personally asked my tech department for non-touchscreen devices, because I believe in helping students develop many skill sets, not just those that they are comfortable with. Growth comes from being challenged.

Great Chromebook for the elderly, got one for my dad, he had to send it in for repairs as some of these have trackpad issues, but it was a free repair and it works perfectly now. That screen is worth the price alone and the speakers are some of the best I've heard on a Chromebook.

Lolol I got the same for my dad and really love that screen and speakers and was just debating the exact same thing. I don't need another Chromebook, I have four of them and I'll probably get one of the newer chipset ones this Christmas.

My reply below was to someone who asked about compatability with Office 365. Their comment seems to have disappeared meanwhile.

Alternately to install an office suite locally, there's OpenOffice which is established, usable software.

Neverware has Chrome OS Flex available for download, that can be easily installed on most standard PC's, as opposed to investing in locked-down Chromebooks like this deal. Further; the limitations of the eMMC speeds can be somewhat alleviated by installing Windows, Linux, and other OS's on an external USB drive that's faster than eMMC's (for Windows; research portable Windows install on USB drives using Rufus). I rarely support proprietary/locked-down hardware/software.

Thank you! I was one of the folks who asked last time this was on special. To purchase for this very reason. Because of file collaboration and some other issues cant use open office when working on word files.

Thanks again for posting link.

I expect to see more chromebook deals throughout the summer. You have the new chromebooks from CES being released so retailers will try and get rid of inventory before school begins.

I got this the last time it was on sale, touchpad sucks but a wireless mouse fixes that. So far so good.

I've been using it for college as my main laptop since it was on sale for $150 and I've had no complaints. Kinda scary to read that some have had issues with the touchpad but mine has been fine. I only use a mouse when I stream games and this Chromebook is great at it. Actually, I've been impressed with the performance of the Intel N4500. I've bought the Acer Spin 513 with the Snapdragon 7c, and just last week the Acer Spin 514 with the Ryzen 3 3250c, and for some reason they just haven't performed as well as the N4500, real world, or in benchmarks.

I get the great reviews above but I'll be the downvote magnet if you'd just read my perspective.
This is a great device except for the processor. And here's why:
1. If you stream music (such as yt music) in the background and reload a tab, the music stutters a lot. I tried this by closing everything else (all except these 2 tabs).
2. Play Store video streaming apps flicker if you have it as resizable (anything not phone/tablet).
3. None of the Linux apps I tried even loaded (although installed fine).
I tried all of these with the least use of other resources (kept all other tabs closed).
The screen and other aspects about the build are great and I returned after a long time debating with myself especially since I only paid 150.
