It depends on how much you drive your EV. I've only used a level 1 for the past 3 years. And to install a 240v outlet and buy an EVSE it would be about $1k. But since a level one works fine for us, that same $1k can get us 20k miles at our local DC charger @ $0.20/kWh & 4mi/kWh efficiency. So it is better... It depends on how far you drive. I've spent $70 in DC charging over the past 5 months and drove around 1k - 1300 miles. When I do use a DC charger it's only for 15-20 minutes and I never spend more then $0.35/kWh when traveling. I think the break point is between 50 and 75 miles of daily use of where you don't need a lvl 2 if you have 8-10 hours of charging been trips. Like your standard work commute. Plus you can always stop and charge at the store or mall or wherever you go and they have the chargers. It's still cheaper to pay for lvl 2 and lvl 3 charging on occasion then it is to put in a lvl 2 at home if your on a tiered rate at home. If your on a time of use rate and don't need to charge during peak times then again a lvl 1 will be fine. If you need to charge during peak times then it would be best to install a lvl 2 at home.

The description on that site doesn't match the specs listed. It says 3 times faster than a Level-1, however the specs show 120V/16A -- which is precisely Level-1.

When looking up the model that it is listed as SC1455, the manufacturer website seems to have the correct specs as a Level-2 charger https://www.schumacherelectric.co...v-charger/. Looks like the confusion on the specs is due to the inclusion of a 240V-120V adapter.

Contents include: Schumacher 16A 240V EV Charger, 120-volt adapter cable (1), and user manual

It works with both 240v and 120v at up to 16amp.

The 3x is misleading. they're are comparing it to a ~120v 10amp

Maybe it's 3x faster on a 240v outlet vs 120v.

Am I missing something? It's showing $204 for me. Looks exactly like the BougeRV one I've been using off of Amazon.

I think 16 A will work well for a PHEV but if you want to future proof isn't it better to spend a little more and get something with 240 v and 40A+?

This is level one. 240V@16A makes it more energy efficient than 120V@16A maybe? Not 3X faster though. $150 for the charger seems like an ok price if you need one.

I just bought a chargepoint Level2 charger from electric company with instant rebate. I used $200 capital one signup bonus and still paid $300. Level 2 also requires professional install and room for new breaker in your electrical box.
It's still level 2

For those with only 120V available- will this be faster than the standard Tesla cord with 120v ?
I currently drip charge and get 5 miles an hour.

If you have a 240V NEMA 6-20P outlet this looks like a good idea.

No. Lvl 1 max out at 14-16A as most breakers are only 15A - 20A for 120v outlets. But this will allow you to store your included EVSE in your car and have this one plugged in at home all the time.

It won't be noticeably faster and could even be slower.
If you have a 240 volt outlet then this would be faster.
