Don't get the flip, fancy phone, horrible battery life. Fanciness wears off, but day to day battery usage is what matters at the end. Need to charge at least 3 times a day with regular usage

I wish I hadn't bought into the iPhone hype. Lesson learnt. Now I have to wait a year and switch back. Apart from the battery if anyone is considering switching I would recommend you use one for a week.

You may be reading too much into it. Terms state purchases online at fi.google.com. So basically any charge from fi.google.com should trigger the credit, whether it be the monthly cell plan or buying a new phone. If it doesn't credit you can always chat/call AMEX for reimbursement. YMMV

I assume you'll use the 1st Amex $25 credit when you pay for the phone. If you boost your monthly bills to $25+, then you'll get 2 more Amex credits from 4 monthly bills. However, if you use a Fi referral code (available on Reddit) to get a $20 credit from Fi, it'll mess up that scheme. The Fi code is entered when the order is made, and I already entered mine when placing the order on 4/22.

i suppose you can always use some data to pad up the monthly to $25? i was told its a metered data charge ($10/GB). when does the referral credit kick in? 2nd month? i hope Fi charges at beginning of month?

Come to think of it, if the monthly bill for the $20 plan + tax is above $25 on it own, then the $25 Amex credit is a good deal. But if the bill is under $25 (let's say $24.50) and you spike it with a $10 data charge, then the benefit is not much: 2 months x ($24.50 + $10) - $25 Amex credit = $44 vs $49 if you don't do the Amex deal.

isnt data charge metered as in could be less than $10? thats what fi agent told me but i dont really trust them.

I'm new to Fi. Don't know how the Data charge is calculated for the minimum plan. Is it a flat-rate $10 for each 1GB, or prorated on what you use at $10 per 1GB.
The credit kicks in after 30 days from activation, so I assume it'll be applied to the 2nd month.

yes, over multiple transactions. but each time you go over $50, the counter will reset i guess, so you will have to do minimum 4 bill transactions with AMEX by 9/2.

Yes, but I'm not sure per Amex terms if you get $25 credit for every accumulated $50 spent from multiple purchases.

My plan is to charge my 4 monthly bills to Amex as is (not spiking them). After a $20 Fi credit, the remaining amount (4 x around $25 - $20) should get me a $25 Amex credit.

Also got the Google Fi Amex offer on the card I charge it to, but I expect new phone to show up as a Google Store purchase and not Google Fi. Someone who's had it shipped, can you confirm?

Get a $25 statement credit by using your enrolled eligible Card to spend a minimum of $50 in one or more purchases online at fi.google.com by 9/2/2022. Limit of 3 statement credits (total of $75)
