The free updates don't include upgrades.
IOW, when Office 2024 (or whatever) comes out you don't get to upgrade to it. However, you will still receive security, bug, and critical updates to your Office 2021 for the life of the product (thru Oct 13, 2026).

Also, read the ONE COMPUTER part as something that you control. If a computer that you had this Office 2021 on dies, you are fully able to license the same Office 2021 on a new computer, provided you log into your Microsoft account and remove the old computer activation. It's a full retail license that is fully transferrable - as long as it's only on one computer at a time.

Also², If you already have (or have had) a Microsoft account tied to a subscription Microsoft product (Office365/Microsoft365) Microsoft may not allow you to use that account for perpetual products (although this isn't explained when you try to use it). Just create a new, free Microsoft account and activate it that way. You can use the key you receive for any valid email address (regardless of the email address you enter when purchasing the Office 2021 Pro).

I purchased from here in mid April. Last week my installation suddenly restricted my access as unlicensed. I called Microsoft support and they tried to help but unable to saying something to the effect this was MSDN licensed and ultimately I would have to contact the seller. I do not recommend this deal.

Their site states they are a Microsoft Gold Partner and a Microsoft AEP – Authorized Education Partner & CSP Reseller. Who knows if that is the truth. They did respond quickly to an issue I had back in January. Not sure about transferring to a new laptop. My Microsoft account does show this product is licensed to me. For $25.99 + tax, I took a chance & it's been fine so far.

I wonder if Excel has the new things from Office 365, such as Lambda function, power query
and if you can connect your domain to email (Outlook)
except for excel, outlook and onenote, is there anything useful here? Compared to the free cloud versions of the comptition?

Excel 2010 will still run, but Microsoft stopped supporting it and offering patches and upgrades [microsoft.com]. At some point though, every computer will reach the point that the hardware can't be upgraded to run the current version of the operating system which means that you won't be able to keep getting upgrades/patches for the software you're running.

And I agree, I hate the 'cloud everything' and subscription models. I don't want to give Microsoft/Adobe/Google my data, and I don't want to pay a subscription fee instead of just buying a copy of the software.

No joke, working on my basic ass spreadsheets (no macros, graphs, or anything) with Excel 365 on my work Win10Pro i7 11th gen is slower than when I work on them with Excel 2003 on my backup WinXP i5 2nd gen laptop. Nothing but bloat and spyware (uh, "analytics") these days

This seems so good but I just don't see a use for it. Thumbs up for sure on a great deal but I'm so embedded in Apple's ecosystem, using Pages, Keynote and Numbers across Mac and PC and if I ever need a more robust application I use Open Office, which I've always liked better than MS Office. Gosh… I want to get it just to get it. MS Office is really pretty! 🤣 I think I'll pass though!
