those aren't quite as good as office
How so? I use them both professionally and have never had a single client even know. Plus they suit my needs.

They were perfect for myself and my business. So I guess YMMV.

Yeah I don't need to do any research. I own a successful business and we didn't get there by wasting money on things we don't need.

Have a good day though. ☺️

Open Office and Google Docs do all this which I'm sure multiple people probably have already mentioned. Free and get the job done.
What do you use for email management? I've been hooked on Outlook forever.

Is Popular Science trying to mimic Popular Mechanics for a bit of credibility?
In what regard? Popular Science existed 30 years before Popular Mechanics.

i know it says "One-time purchase installed on 1 Windows PC for use at home or work" but has anyone tried installing it on multiple computers? eset usually says 1 pc license but i've been able to install on 3 of my pc's before
I purchased this a few months back and tested this out. Yes you can install it on more than one PC. StackSocial allows you to purchase but you have to redeem the code from a third party website. After a day or two they will send your the key and instructions on how to download and install. The key is tied to your Microsoft account, nothing prevents you from downloading the file onto another computer so yes you can install on 3 of your pcs.

Lifetime for THE COMPUTER you install this on. It's non-transferrable. (Updates are apparently included) I'm seeing regular price between $69-99.
This is confusing because typically a Office account I've been able to install on many machines, at least the 5 I have at home all on the same license.

At some point between 2000 and 2010 there were versions that allowed activation on 3 computers. At one point they finally called it a Family Pack, then the next version was back to 1 system. Some people still believe the 3-activation thing to be "standard", but it hasn't been for awhile now.

LibreOffice is great for personal work but it still lacks professionable compatibility with .docx. The other person may be able to open it without errors, but you have no guarantee the formatting will be correct. You can save to PDF if you're only sending documents, but if you need to provide editable ones for clients/work, it's not professional to send out questionable compatibility files (and depending on who you work for, you may not have a choice). The only free one out there that has extremely high compatibility is OnlyOffice (not OpenOffice, which split from and is way less developed than Libre), which I will use if I need to make a .docx on a computer without Office, but is a slow piece of junk otherwise. I have no personal experience with Google Docs but I don't like having to upload files to Drive to be able to open them. Microsoft Online is great if you just want to type a letter, but not if your work needs things like merging and custom dictionaries, etc, in which case you may as well just use WordPad anyway.
