Got used to Office 365 family plan (~$65-$85/year) that comes with 1 TB storage per person per family of 6. We are in the age of subscriptions and cloud computing. I miss the old days of installing software and purchasing a student license from the university bookstore Smilie

Has anyone had one of these for over 3 years ?
Yes, I still use the lifetime 2019 license and still get regular updates.

Also, I bought a new MacBook in November and the license transferred over when I used the standard MacOS data transfer that pops up when you first start your new laptop

It's really not. 2021 will get updates through 2026, so $10/yr if you paid $50 for it when new.... You can't get O365 near that cheap (disclaimer- single user- you can get vaguely close with discounted family plans split among a bunch of computers)

And on the flipside...

Tell us you like running software that hasn't had security updates for years without telling us that Stick Out Tongue
Security updates run at least 10 years. I have Office 2010 on a couple computers and I'm pretty sure it still gets updated. The last update was at least April 2021, I'll have to see when the computer shows.

If you're a basic home user, sure. If you're a power user... (especially in the corporate environment) - it's changed quite a bit.
How many power corporate users are buying this because they found it for $50 on Slickdeals?

I bought this one back in January from SoftKeyWorld, total $27.81. And yes, it's still working! https://softkeyworld.com/product/...onal-plus/

Code SPRING22 for 20% off. Also code MEP1 for 35% off.

Edit: Code MEP1 is now 30% off effective 4/14/22.

The sketchiest "deal" on Slickdeals. The fact that this site asks for billing information even after selecting PayPal, and the amount of times this thread has been recycled onto the front page really makes me lose trust in Slickdeals.

So after reading through all of this crap is buying through StackSocial at this price going to allow me to have Microsoft Office on my new MacBook Air that I plan on keeping for at least 5 years? Will my Microsoft Office get yanked or not receive updates or anything of the sort because it was purchased through this site? In other words is Microsoft on board with this site selling their software? I would rather not throw away $50 if there is a gray area and I "may" be ok for 5 years.

I can't remember how many different times I've had to buy Microsoft Office. Finally moved to LibreOffice which is free and open source and it certainly does the job for me. Highly recommend trying it out before giving Microsoft your money.

Which of course has nothing to do with your first comment, nor my response. My point stands.

Quote from Microsoft :
Support for Office 2010 ended on October 13, 2020 and there will be no extension and no extended security updates.

And the 10 year timeframe was true of older software.

It is not true of newer stuff.

Office 2016 was the last office version to be covered under the old 10 year policy- with extended support (security updates) concluding in Oct 2025.

Office 2019 will ALSO reach end of any support in Oct 2025 (with mainstream support ending in 2023).

And Office 2021 will reach end of any support in Oct 2026- reflecting the new policy of only 5 years of support and security updates.

EDIT: If they have full dark mode Excel, I'd consider upgrading. I'm talking about black cells and white text with a click of a button. In 7 years they were able to at least improve that.... right? Do tell!
I can't speak for this version, but I use M$ Office (365) at work in dark mode & love it! Since this is a 2021 version, I would bet that it includes dark mode, but can't confirm.

April 2021 is past 10 years. actually less than a month shy of 12 years from release date.
