Do not buy refurbished!! I bought two in December 2020. Both died about one month outside the one year warranty. I was so confident buying refurbished due to the dyson name. I went through weeks of back snd forth with customer service only to be told to replace the battery. Even after doing that the vacuums did not run more than five minutes. Dyson basically said they would give me 20% off item in their store. I bought the animal v7 though.
Dyson is trash. Batteries die real fast and wear out quickly. Suction and picking up stuff is horrible. It is overpriced for what it offers. Save your money
I've had a dyson wired for over 10 years and a v7 cordless for 5 years and just now replaced the battery pack. far from trash

That's why I buy from Costco. It's a little bit more expensive but I can return it no question asked when the battery dies after 2-3 years.
If the vac is pulsing on and off, you need to clean or replace the purple drop in filter on the v7. Mine did it and cleaning it out fixed my issue.
Or it's clogged. I have a v6 and it can easily get clogged up with dog hair if I go under the couch or something. It's some kind of override to not burn the thing out. Empty the canister or clear the tube and it works fine.
Also dyson customer service seems to be okay, they replaced a battery on the v6 well out of warranty at no cost.

They told me to pound sand a couple months after warranty expired for a prior V10 purchase from Walmart.
Good thing is 3rd party batteries are not that expensive. And 3rd party fluffy head attachments can also be obtained for about $35-40 as opposed to the $95+ OEM.
I've ONLY purchased Dyson refurbished via their Ebay account. Two animal 2 vacuums, 2 tp01 fans, and a v10. 3 years of having these and using DAILY/WEEKLY and they still work beautifully. My v10 did recently have a chip in the bin which costs $30 to replace. So if you're new to the Dyson world and want to dip your feet in before going heavier on costs, I'd absolutely recommend.
Note: gave the first animal 2 to my MOL after we got the v10. Wife then wanted something more powerful without the battery charging every 5-20 minutes so we got another animal 2 when the refurbished went back on sale.
Another note; the chip on the v10 was two years later after use. Which was about two weeks ago

Bought V6, refurbished, via SD / Dyson eBay store in May 2017 for 199 plus tax. Only now the battery started to fail. Could just replace it too but I think the time has come to upgrade. I have another brand too - the one from LG, Zero something, also bought via SD. I like both, but am willing to get another Dyson. It could be just the unlucky unit that was faulty in your case

It amazes me how many people don't know that you have to do actual maintenance on vacuums. I've had people give me both a DC24 and a DC40 (freecycle/buy nothing) that 'weren't' working anymore'. Pulled them apart... cleaned them up... removed some large dustballs... lubricated some parts... washed the filters... and they've both been working great for years.
I'm still not 100% sold on Dyson, especially at the price (for free, I'll take them any day). I've got a bagless Hoover Cyclonic that was 25% of the price and probably 90% as good. The Hoover is easier to use the tools, easier to maintain, and easier to dump the dirt. The Dyson balls are a bit easier to maneuver.
