I bought a Ridgid compressor from DTO last week for $60.00. It was literally thrown in a box sideways (not feet down) with absolutely no padding, styrofoam, peanuts, crumpled up paper or bubble wrap. The outside of the box was all dented and semi-ripped from it being thrown around. I was shocked at the terrible packing. Fortunately there was no damage to it and it works fine. I'll be thinking twice before I order from them again.

It's a handy little miter saw, but I would only order if you have a local store in order to avoid any possible shipping/return headaches.

I'd suggest a manual style/guillotine or straight edge and utility knife for vinyl plank.

Can this cut 2" x 4"s with the 2"side facing the base? Thinking about getting this for 2 - 4 cuts on a project. Lol. BTW is the an accurate 45° cut possible with some fiddling around? thanks!
Fairly accurate 45° miters on a 2x4 can be done with a circular saw and speed square. Pretty accurate 45° bevels can be done with a circular saw's shoe adjustment (double checked with a square). It'd be tough to dial in enough accuracy for fine furniture or cabinets, but they should be plenty good for 2x4 construction.

I have this. It is nice for what it is. I loved it before I discovered "brushless" and "sliding"! Still, for $60, it's a good price. I'll probably sell mine for $40 at some point and pick up the brushless, sliding model.

This DTO website is a gem, I will definitely be looking for some deals on this website. Does anyone know of a DTO type of website or any place where I can get Milwaukee brand tools for cheaper than retail? I would be fine with reconditioned but dont want to purchase beat up tools on second hand apps or websites. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

I don't think there's a way to adjust the sliders themselves. The best you can do is use the bevel adjustment knob on the rear-right. And if the bevel adjustment isn't square, there's screws on the rear left you can loosen to adjust the bevel alignment.

Loosen the bevel knob, and use a carpenter speed square to square the blade with the platform. Then tighten the bevel kob and hope its at zero. If not, there's a little bit of adjustment that can be made on the indicator. If that's not enough, then you have to adjust the bevel alignment with the screws in the rear-left that i mentioned.
Bevel adjusts the tilt. That isnt the issue. Its the slider direction - its not parallel to the face of the blade so that there is an angle between the blade and the run direction. The tilt is OK, its perpendicular to the base. So if there isnt a way to adjust the slider, then if you dont use the slider, it will cut one angle and if you use the slider it will cut a different angle. Then you have to adjust the fence to give a 90 degree cut depending on whether you are using the slider or not. Its off by a degree or 2. Following the alignment directions will not give you a 90 degree cut when using the slider!.

This saw has a 4-1/4" cross cut capacity. If you need to cut something wider than that with this saw, you can cut it and then flip it over to complete the cut - which isn't ideal in terms of efficiency or cut quality.

Might be better to jump up to a 7-1/4" slider or 10" fixed - or - use a circular saw with some sort of guide such as a speed square, Kreg crosscut guide, or something DIY.

I purchased a Ryobi 7 1/4" sliding mitre say that uses their standard 18V battery. Not for precision work, but fine for portable cuts. The only downsides are that 1) the alignment is not perfect - off a degree or 2. 2) its front heavy so you need a stand or flat base and clamps.

But it isnt a hybrid - cant use a cord.
This is interesting as all the youtube reviews of this saw don't seem to mention it being front heavy nor is it clamped down in the reviews I've seen.

Its a safety issue. Suppose u put a mitre saw on a flat surface only. When you cut, what happens if the blade encounters some nail or other defect in the wood? You get kickback, and the saw lunges forward as well as the piece. Both need to be clamped down.

Thanks for the clarification. I understand what you mean now. Guessing it has to do with the slop in the sliders in relation to the knob it has to tighten the sliders in place, but then again, it's probably the slider tubes aren't true anyways since these are low end saws. I'll check mine tomorrow. I know my cuts are at least 2 degrees off because I haven't had time to play with all the adjustments since I haven't tried building cabinetry with it yet.

IIRC, there's an adjustable foot (screw thingy) under the front of the saw that you use to stabilize it so it can't lean forward.

I have mine on a ridgid miter stand, so i haven't needed to use that front foot thingy.

PS: the Ridgid miter stand is badass!..even though the extension ends aren't very precise.

I already have 18V 4.5in Ryobi circular saw, along with a bunch of other ryobi one+ tools. Will this simplify my cuts as I plan to build quite a few backyard desks and other furniture. I am assuming a miter saw provides more controlled, easy and clean cuts. Thoughts?

I got both this and the sliding version from them as factory blems, and can confirm neither is for precision work. The sliding one is much more useful though. Expect to spend time trying to get everything square.

I upgraded to a Diablo combination blade and it was kinda a pain to swap out.
Interesting, many reviews say the opposite, you just need to take the time to set up the guide and blade angle correctly. There's a craftsman on youtube who makes beautiful custom picture frames with the saw above and his work is impeccably precise.
