Was approved for this card @80K signup bonus a couple weeks ago. Some notes:
This is a great card for anyone who travels or plans to soon travel!
Call your local branch and see if they offer 80K signup + first year fee waived. If you do apply in branch, allot at least 30 minutes for this .
If you have a Peloton membership, note that the Preferred will credit you $60 total off fees, but I think only through June, so act quick!
I didn't get my card after a week, despite a 1-2 day delivery promise. I called in, and they said, oh, whoops, we forgot to ship it! (and they then indeed shipped it 2nd day air via UPS).
You'll get the most value from the 80K points BY FAR by transferring them strategically to airline/hotel partners (most often: United and Hyatt). Do some reading across blogs to learn more.
I know when I applied for this card, I did it in the branch and got a $125 grocery credit incentive. Basically every time I shopped at a grocery store I received a credit back until the $125 credit was maxed…. It may be worth it to call a banker & ask if they have that promo as it was only for in branch applications, not online & worth it to a trip to the bank, if you ask me!
I don't think there's been a better offer on the reserve in many years?
Outside of the SUB the CS > CSP used to be a no brainer, but with the higher AF on the CSR, and the improved benefits/earn on CSP it's a tougher choice now.
Today it's $155 more (removing the travel credit from the price difference) for CSR...
SUPER generously if we count the GE/TSA credit as $20 a year that drops it to $135/yr more for CSR.
For the $135 you get:
Priority Pass (still the good one that includes restaurants unlike Amex)
Marginally better travel insurance coverage
"free" roadside assitance (up to 4 calls a year, max $50 per call)
You do get significantly better purchase protection (10k per claim instead of $500- but then I'm buying most expensive stuff with a Citi card for 2 years of extra warranty anyway)
1.5x for your points in the travel portal vs 1.25 for CSP- but this is rarely a worthwhile use of points for most folks compare to transfers.
10x points (vs 5x on CSP) for cash spend in the travel portal or Chase Dining portals- but those again aren't frequently the ideal way to book for most folks anyway.
So as I say, when this was $35-55/yr it was easy... ONE 2 person use of priority pass at an airport restaurant more than covered this- if you get anything out of any other benefit you're golden.
At $135 it's much more marginal for many.

Like literally a couple of days? That gives me just barely enough time if I cancel today then…thanks
I downgraded, verified my account showed the updated card and applied for CSP same day. But that got rejected for the reason I already had a Sapphire card. So waited a couple days and then applied again, and that was approved. May be next day is fine too but I don't know. I recommend you downgrade today/now, wait for the systems to update overnight and visit a branch tomorrow and check, instead of applying online.
applied at a branch and confirmed annual can be waived, sadly i did not get instant approval on the spot after he submitted my application. he gave me a number to call.
You can only have one Sapphire product and based on your bonus it sounds like you were still under 48 months. It is 48 months from when you received the bonus, not from when you applied or were approved for your card in case anyone is unsure.
CIB one shouldn't play a role in it
I got a letter in the mail from Chase saying I am not eligible for the bonus because I already have a sapphire product. Since it's been over 48 months since my last bonus, then I must cancel the CSR first, before I can apply for a CSP or another CSR (depending on which one has a promotion bonus?
Is there any time duration limit on the cancel and apply? Can I cancel one day and apply for it the next day?
Worth it to wait until May 31 to go into a branch to see if the fee can be waived? I was going to sign up online today and put my cousin as a referral.
Damn...i just canceled this card from the 100,000 points deal last year. I guess it has to be at least 6 months past to be considered "new customer" again?!
Edit: NVM it's 48 months not 6 months
Anyone know if rental car insurance is covered if booked using Authorized user's card and Authorized user as primary driver?
It is supposed to. You would need to use the card to pay for the car and decline the rental company's coverage. If they refuse to allow you to decline, you can call Chase for assistance.
I just rented a car in Mexico last month without issues or any hassle from the rental company. No damages so didn't test the insurance coverage.
I cancelled this card today from last year with 80K sign up bonus/$50 Grocery CR before it hit AF later this month. This was just collecting dust in drawer.
My wife's account has the 80k preapproved offer. Now there is two options:
1. go to store and apply, AF will be waived.
2. i can refer my wife (i just got the card less than two weeks ago), get 15k bonus though AF will not be waived.
Will it be granted to get approved through option 2? Anyone has the experience? Thanks.

Going to a branch to apply is actually worse, as far as how long it takes to be able to apply for a new Sapphire after downgrading.
Hi all, questions: when you refer someone to get the card and they sign up and approve, how long does it take for you to get the referal bonus ? does the new user neet to meet 4k spending in 3 month in order for the referal person to get bonus? thanks

I waited a couple days and applied again and it went through. Not sure of the rules, may be an overnight systems update is all that is necessary. Many got first year fee waived, applying in the branch.
