Don't expect to run this on a 20lb propane tank. Lots of reviews stating tank will freeze up. This thing is also going to drink a lot of gas for being so big.
Always determine how much power you are going to need then buy the generator just barely big enough so fuel consumption is maximized. Running generators can be expensive and this big 457cc engine is going to guzzle gas. Be prepared. Reviewer says this is going to burn about 1 gallon of gas per hour and 1.2 gallons (5lbs) of propane an hour on a 50% load.

All that being said this is quite a deal for such a large generator!

Spectacular price for this hybrid generator. This can handle most electric water heaters, even on propane, which produces less power than running on gas. Great choice for a whole house temporary situation need.

3...2...1....someone is going to post a 1800w inverter generator with "buy this instead" then make some vague claim about "damage to sensitive electronics" that is as well documented as Bigfoot's middle school grades. Dead Horse

*Note, I have had the XP10000EH going on 7 years and it has been great. Only have a 100 or so hours on it (luckily the hurricane game has been pretty weak lately in NC). Somehow all my "sensitive electronics" have survived each use. Perhaps Zeus is watching our for me.....

These are well built machines. I've had several of the 10K and this one. Not the quietest but you can't beat it for this price at this point. I think I paid 600 for this model a couple years ago.

edit: I wonder if we have another big batch of these generators coming at bottom prices like a few years ago ?

IT all depends. IT will automatically throttle down on low usage. IT's not sipping fuel for sure but it's also a big (for household standards) generator that can handle powering your entire home.

I have the same one...got it a few years back for $499. It's enough to run everything in my house. Have only needed to use it a few times...maybe 10 hour run time. Runs great. Tapped into my 500 gal propane tank for the house, so I can run it for a few weeks if needed.

In sub 40 degree weather it can freeze up. That is how LP works. Thank god it is dual fuel. (Also there are ways to prevent that)

So big truck use more gas than little car.....okay but what happens if you need a big truck?

Huh? Pretty much no combustion engine is fuel efficient running at 100%. Most generators are most fuel efficient at 50-75% of full load. Plus with your strategy you'll trip the breaker all the time.

Yes, but if you need a 12KW generator, you need a 12KW generator. I can't get away with pulling my travel trailer with my Smart Car so I do not complain about gas mileage my Ram gets during the process.

I wish I was smart enough to put in an LP tank when building my house. I have a camper so I always have at least 2 full LP tanks, plus one on the grill, and another 2 spares in the shed.

Did you need to purchase a second regulator or anything specific for this to run off your 500 lb tank? I've been thinking about doing this for some time, but see some people have problems with finding the correct pressure.

I have this generator. Paid $1200 for it. This is a great price. Unfortunately, the only time I needed it to work, it didn't, but that's my fault for not caring for these engines properly. Left gas in it for too long and needed the carb cleaned. Now it runs great.

I was told run it once a month for an hour with something plugged in to it. Will help keep everything running smoothly

I did buy a reg and it didn't work right. With the reg attached, it would run, but when I put a load on it, it would stop running...assume not enough pressure for the demand. Removed the reg and it ran great with a load.

I was also using a 36' quick connect gas hose to got it to my pole barn, so maybe I lost pressure that way also?

This is the reg I was using.

It's great! With the quick connect fittings, I can be up and running in under a minute.

I deal with the bad gas issue by taking a few actions: Drain out unused gas after you don't need the unit. Its relatively easy on open space units where the carb is easily accessible. I remove the bottom bolt on the carburetor with a 10 mm socket , use a funnel, and an empty gas can the replace the bolt. Optionally use non-ethanol gas . Lookup your state on "pure-gas.org" to see if you have stations near you. Its higher in price but for small engines where fuel may sit idle for > 2 months its a good path. I have been personally doing buying ethanol free gas for > 10 years after having to repair a mower and a tiller because of the gunk created by stale ethanol gas. Some use stabil fuel stabilizer but advise watch "project farm" on YT how well that stuff really works.

I seem to recall it comes with a regulator but I could be wrong.
