Good deals:Towerhobbies.com is running a similar sale, however their free shipping is on $99 post-coupon. They don't have a limit per product, so if you want multiple of a vehicle, you can get them from tower instead of amainhobbies.

22s (2wd) has bottom loading battery, which is a great feature. I have Traxxas 2wd Slash, and personally I'd go with a 4wd version, but if you're on a budget $150 hobby-grade is hard to beat.

Tbh, I'd actually probably go for a style different than the Slash/22s, which have more of a RACING design. The Arrma Granite or Typhon style/design allows you to do things like wheelies and jumps with flips.

It's a stunt/wheelie/basher type rc. It has a short wheel base with large tires hence why it wheelies and does flips on demand. If your looking to race around a track against other rc's this isn't the one. If you just want to go out and run in the dirt or grass and do tricks this is where it shines. Being a 1/5 scale its big and heavy. More mass being thrown around tends to break things more easily compared to its little 1/8 scale brother and costs more to fix when you do so. People like to crap on the Spektrum electronics that come in the Arrma rtr vehicles and opt to purchase the exb version with upgraded parts and supply their own electronics. I personally haven't had any issues with the Spektrum stuff but there are better options out there if you go down the rabbit hole.

My son loves rc cars he has only had toy quality cars in the past. Would this be a good one to race up and down the street or in the back yard dirt? Thinking of a Xmas gift…….

The losi 22s? Yeah that's a good one. The short course truck style is good because of the wide bumpers and the body that encloses the wheels. It makes them a lot more durable and less prone to breakages compared to exposed wheel RCs

Try living in the same town as their physical store… lol. They have a clearance table that gets me every time.
