Does the game fail to execute its story in a believable fashion? Does the game world feel unrealistic or motivations of the characters seem unbelievable? Are there issues with the gameplay or game mechanics? I don't go giving bad reviews to PureFlix movies because I'm not Christian and disagree with the messaging. But I may give one a poor review if I actually watch it and it had poor story and acting.

I've taken a long break from gaming, and I just bought a PS5 + got back into my Switch. Since December, I've blitzed through several of the most acclaimed single player games of the last 5-10 years (TLOU1/2, Witcher 3, God of War, Persona 5, Breath of the Wild, Uncharted 4 Remastered). I really enjoyed them all, but purely from a story perspective, TLOU2 was miles ahead of anything else I have played so far. One of the most memorable pieces of media (gaming or otherwise) I've ever experienced.

I'm still finishing TLOU part 1, and I can say it's one of my top 10 games of all time (been gaming for 40 years... Yes I'm old).

At least that's the indication past debates Ive had about this game have yielded. I've had quite a few.
At the end of the day an online forum isn't going to change anyone's mind or heart. I mean just read some of the comments in this thread alone
Doesn't change the fact that the game was an unforgettable story driven experience, IMHO.

FWIW, and I won't give specifics since you say you haven't finished Pt 1 yet..... but I thought Pt 1 was great right until the ending.
And even then I can acknowledge the ending makes sense in context, and has a brilliance to it- I just hated it.
My hatred of the ending has been the thing that's stopped me from giving Pt 2 a shot- not anything to do with the gender of any characters involved which is colossally dumb reason to object to a game.
Fast forward 4 years later, I went back and played V and fell in love with it
I currently really dislike TLOS part 2. I beat it, but due to the story of the first, which was much better imo, I really didn't like where they went with the second. If part 1 didn't exist, I would have really liked the game, but story is everything to me when gaming and it was just way connected with the first
So 4 years from now, I'll replay it and hopefully fall in love with it
