I'm finding it hard to gauge whether the game is legitimately bad or if people just get butthurt because they disagree with the themes/politics. When people just say a game is bad because it is "woke" or a "woman power fantasy" it doesn't discourage me from taking an interest in it. And when people say it is for "degenerates" then it only makes me want to play it more.

Does the game fail to execute its story in a believable fashion? Does the game world feel unrealistic or motivations of the characters seem unbelievable? Are there issues with the gameplay or game mechanics? I don't go giving bad reviews to PureFlix movies because I'm not Christian and disagree with the messaging. But I may give one a poor review if I actually watch it and it had poor story and acting.

All downvotes on every comment praising the game are amusing. I'll collect mine, too!

I've taken a long break from gaming, and I just bought a PS5 + got back into my Switch. Since December, I've blitzed through several of the most acclaimed single player games of the last 5-10 years (TLOU1/2, Witcher 3, God of War, Persona 5, Breath of the Wild, Uncharted 4 Remastered). I really enjoyed them all, but purely from a story perspective, TLOU2 was miles ahead of anything else I have played so far. One of the most memorable pieces of media (gaming or otherwise) I've ever experienced.

Thanks for the comparison and honest opinion. I tend to lean more Right than left, but that would not stop me from enjoying a movie or a game with Female (Gay or Straight) protagonists. I think that's silly. How many complaints do we see for Tomb Raider?
I'm still finishing TLOU part 1, and I can say it's one of my top 10 games of all time (been gaming for 40 years... Yes I'm old).

I struggle to see how the game is political at all. There's a female protagonist, and a transgender side character. The most the plot highlights these things is that the transgender character experiences extreme discrimination for a small section of the B plot.

Makes this comment section ironic

I agree with you. Unfortunately I don't believe everyone out there is supportive of these elements.

At least that's the indication past debates Ive had about this game have yielded. I've had quite a few.

At the end of the day an online forum isn't going to change anyone's mind or heart. I mean just read some of the comments in this thread alone

Doesn't change the fact that the game was an unforgettable story driven experience, IMHO.

Valid. For those that don't support transgendered individuals, I think the game can still be enjoyed, provided they acknowledge that transgender people exist and do face discrimination (even in a fictional post apocalyptic world). They can root for the villains, idk

FWIW, and I won't give specifics since you say you haven't finished Pt 1 yet..... but I thought Pt 1 was great right until the ending.

And even then I can acknowledge the ending makes sense in context, and has a brilliance to it- I just hated it.

My hatred of the ending has been the thing that's stopped me from giving Pt 2 a shot- not anything to do with the gender of any characters involved which is colossally dumb reason to object to a game.

This game is like MGSV in a way from my perspective. I loved the story aspects and thought guns of the patriots was a masterpiece. I started playing MGSV and I HATED it. Due to how much I loved the story aspect and gameplay of the originals.

Fast forward 4 years later, I went back and played V and fell in love with it

I currently really dislike TLOS part 2. I beat it, but due to the story of the first, which was much better imo, I really didn't like where they went with the second. If part 1 didn't exist, I would have really liked the game, but story is everything to me when gaming and it was just way connected with the first

So 4 years from now, I'll replay it and hopefully fall in love with it

True. That'd be an interesting lens, rooting for the villains!

Missed playing this when it was on PS Now. And now I can't play it ever, until (if ever) it comes to PC. (Only PC owner, no PS.)
