Amazing that this chip has almost the same horsepower as my i9-10850k from a year ago... plus, the single thread speed is ~15% faster than my i9, so in regular use it'll be snappier... crazy good value for performance...

Beast of a CPU and at this price, definitely a great deal. I've owned my i5 12400 for almost two months now and it's a fantastic processor for gaming, photo editing in Lightroom, basic data work, and it stays under 50c with a cheap Vetroo air cooler. A+

That's good to hear! I'll have similar use. Now I just need to wait for an ITX H670 mobo to come back in stock haha.

I'm eyeing this ASRock H670 whenever it comes back in stock. I'm going ITX again because I already have a case:
ASRock H670M-ITX/AX LGA 1700 Intel H670 SATA 6Gb/s DDR4 Mini ITX Motherboard - Newegg.com

If I went with a new case, I would go mATX with this mobo:
ASRock B660M-HDV LGA 1700 Intel B660 SATA 6Gb/s DDR4 Micro ATX Motherboard - Newegg.com

GPU 'crashing' prices are overlapping 11th gen CPU overstocks - especially since Nvidia is in position to take a larger CPU share... along with many other tech markets.

Sad that proprietary, limited spaces continue to expand and 'capitalize'.

To put into context, this is about 40% cheaper than a i5-12600K but only about 15% less performance per core. 4 less cores and 4 less threads, not unlocked.

This would be a great CPU for budget gaming machine paired with 3060/6600 class GPU if you can get at falling prices and 16 GB RAM.

I do not know what equivalent AMD at this price is to compare price/performance.

Best cpu I've ever used! 40% better benchmarks than my overclocked i5-9600K. But 65 watts (compared to 140) means that my rig is now all but silent, even under load.
A B550 board is what you want if you're not overclocking (has all the other perks of a Z690). Using a $139 Asus, my old DDR4-3200, and a $129 Gen-4 nvme-ssd for an entire new realm of performance. Amazed - and I've been building since 386-25 :-).

Will there be a big difference if I pair this with a 3080.... Or should I go with the i7 12700k.... I mean that one is $200 more... Suggestions?
