He tells a story where him and Bowie were at a TV show and Bowie was playing. Bowie saw Numan and had him thrown out. Rumor has it Bowie was threatened by him.
So I wouldn't consider him trash.
Gary Numan's older albums are absolute classics, the Pleasure Principle is one everyone should listen to at least once, and you've almost certainly heard "Cars" off of it.
In the 2000s, he hopped on the Nine Inch Nails industrial bandwagon and never got off. So if you like aging dudes in black jackets with drums that sound like factory machinery, you'll probably like this album. But it's fairly niche.

And honestly NIN was just hopping on what Einstürzende Neubauten had already started. If you want to listen to someone shrieking while banging on metal stuff and breaking things it's hard to beat the Germans.

So I wouldn't consider him trash.
I liked that song and I liked some of his new stuff, some was a miss though. Good or trash is subjective to each person

Though, I'll have to give it a listen on Qobuz. So far it's very Dune-esque. I like it!
