Auto-renewing at $11 a month. If you cancel immediately, it only gives you one month (until 5/20 if do it today).
Insane this this is getting hate.

1. It's free for 3 months. If you go once, it's one free drink. If it's convenient and next door to Staples (which you happen to visit once or twice daily), then you get 30-60 free drinks a month.

2. $8.99/$10.99 isn't bad. A weekly drink would be $2-3, which is pretty darn good if you ask me.

3. Order it on the kiosk. You can take your own cup and not have to wait.

4. Even better than #3, it you bring your own mug you can fill it up. I bring a Yeti mug and just tap three buttons on the iPad kiosk, fill it up, and leave.

5. Filling it up yourself, in my (and all my friends and coworkers) opinion is one of the best parts. Want to try something before you commit? Go ahead. Want to mix and match? Go ahead. A drink came out too weak? Make it again. Want a refill if you're sitting there?Go ahead.
You're of no use to anybody.

Place I went to you they'll give you a cup behind the pick up counter. Everything is self service after that which is nice (can mix drinks).

The Charged Strawberry Lemon Mint was good but I didn't taste any mint really. It's almost a concentrate so you can just add water or tea to cut down the sugar/caffeine. The Apple Cranberry was just okay...but probably not bad to add a bit to another drink. I have a hard time believing it really has the same amount of sugar as the strawberry lemon mint...doesn't taste like it.

Overall, I just like that it's self service and you can mix the drinks whether for different flavors or diluting. I'm guessing a mostly agave lemonade and iced tea mix with a little bit of the strawberry lemon mint would be ideal and dash of apple cranberry (if you plan to drink it right away). Otherwise (or as your refill) just get a large cup of the strawberry lemon mint (no ice) to bring back home to mix with.

I love Panera, but the 100% clean food is a marketing gimmick, the fat, saturated fat, and sodium are really bad on many items. Hey Doc, no way I had a heart attack I only eat clean food.

Same here. The morning shift at one place actually seems to place your empty cup on the shelf with a name and it's ready to grab, the way it's supposed to work (the mobile app says it will be on the pickup shelf). But the evening shift and other stores I've gone to hardly ever seem to do that, despite receiving an email saying the order is ready (kind of a pointless order tracking system if it's not even right most of the time). I haven't seen a place to grab self-serve cups and I usually don't even bother if I don't see my cup on the shelf now. I definitely wouldn't pay to join and it's actually kind of turned me off the idea of even ordering food there now because it just seems like such a simple concept to blunder so badly. It's just sitting an empty cup on a shelf. Why even bother setting it up to use the mobile app if you're not going to follow through or only do so randomly now and then? I'd certainly understand if they said no mobile orders for the subscription thing, but it actually seems designed to encourage that.

Just to balance this, I periodically travel and stop at a Panera in a very nice NYC suburb, with low crime. The manager there actually watches the coffee station, and has an employee stand in the back watching, when he isn't, solely to look for people taking coffee for free. They don't even have cups out at the station for customers to take.

So, the situation varies.

Strange. I've been to maybe 8 or 9 stores here in California. They have all had the cups sitting by the ordering kiosk. The kiosk even explicitly tells you to just grab a cup.
Do some stores not have the self-service ordering?

Nope … I haven't even seen a Panera with a self-serve kiosk yet, despite most other fast food restaurants around here getting them. Must depend on the area. Makes sense they'd start with Silicon Valley and spread from there though (might depend on the amount of customer traffic too)

Hmmm, have you ever tried the Travel Mug Refill option in the app? Takes me just 30 seconds to order that when I get in my car. Then at the store I just walk in, fill my mug, and go.

I think it's technically for coffee, but no one ever seems to mind if I use it for fountain drinks.

No, I usually get coffee anyway, so may give it a try. I thought you needed a special Panera mug for that, but just looked at some discussions of it and sounds like that's not required.

Easier to get forgiveness than permission.

Yeah, that just changed this week. They've also removed the cups from the self-service ordering kiosk at my local store.

This morning, I asked the guy at the pickup window if it was still ok to use my travel mug, and he said no problem. Don't know if that's against policy though.

I guess if any of them say anything I'll cancel it. I have always been bringing in my mug. In fact one manager said it didn't matter how big the mug was so I have a 100oz 7-11 mug that I use for pop. Lemonade is okay but I'll stick to my diet Pepsi.

I suspect some stores probably had people doing that with monster mugs for their coffee. It's probably not a big deal for soda since they use huge tanks that are constantly flowing. With the brewed coffee, they need to make sure they don't run out, but at the same time not make so much that it goes stale before it gets used up. So that can probably cause some headaches with inventory control, particularly at smaller locations that don't usually go through huge volumes of coffee. I expect most stores probably won't even bother saying anything, but those where it caused a problem can enforce it if people go overboard.
