To be absolutely pedantic, is this connection faster than USB? Yes.
To be absolutely realistic, is this connection noticeably faster? No, hell no.
There is also the fun fact a PS2 connection bypasses the 6 key rollover limit USB has, which MAY be used in games like flight simulators with hundreds of controls, but likely not useful for 99.99% of gamers.
Anyways... this is why they make and market Mobos with old school PS2 ports.

I went with the Strix Gaming for $350, but it has a ton of features and matches my white case and fans very well. I didn't want to pay that much, but have more than that difference into white fans and controller.
The Asus B660 gaming is also in the low 200s and has a ton of features. It just has less lanes due to being B660.

Down the line if you want DDR5, you'll need a new Mobo again... That isn't exactly saving in the long run.
