Just an FYI that if you buy a board now with DDR4 support, if you want to upgrade to DDR5 down the line, you'll need to also buy a new board with DDR5 support as well. So keep that in mind if you're planning for DDR5.

PS2 input is a direct connection. The protocal is different than USB.

To be absolutely pedantic, is this connection faster than USB? Yes.

To be absolutely realistic, is this connection noticeably faster? No, hell no.

There is also the fun fact a PS2 connection bypasses the 6 key rollover limit USB has, which MAY be used in games like flight simulators with hundreds of controls, but likely not useful for 99.99% of gamers.

Anyways... this is why they make and market Mobos with old school PS2 ports.

So tell us where to buy them for $200/each. This is Slick Deals, not Slick Connections.

12700k has been 300. good mobo, though I prefer the MSI line, can be had for 200. Let's you get in on some past deals for the price of the memory. Imo pass, wait for processor to go on sale, get the same amount of ddr4 for 100$, upgrade to ddr5 down the line when it's half the price if you feel you need it.

If you want all these things now though it's not awful deal.

If you're already thinking about an upgrade when you are building you need to reconsider what you're building.

Lowest I have seen it is like $327 and I got mine for $317 with $10 best buy coupon. I then sole my 5900x and b550, sealed, for about $480 after fees. But now I may regret it because it's impossible to find a good itx mobo for 12700k without spending an insane amount just to go from amd to intel... So I dunno what to even do now. if dr5 were CURRENTLY truly better I'd maybe get a ddr5 board, but also that b660 asus strix itx looks nice, but then I'd have the no oc....

I've heard that the 2x8 DDR5 is a lot slower than 2 x 16 configuration. It was in one of buildzoids videos. DDR5 is too immature to buy right now for the price to benefit. You can get the DDR4 -A version for a little over $200.

I went with the Strix Gaming for $350, but it has a ton of features and matches my white case and fans very well. I didn't want to pay that much, but have more than that difference into white fans and controller.

Counter point these are 1.0 versions of motherboards. They will get better when the next round comes out and cost the same, or less. You are throwing away money on DDR5 right now that you could use to upgrade the mobo later and also sell your older one as well.

The Asus B660 gaming is also in the low 200s and has a ton of features. It just has less lanes due to being B660.

Upgrade down the line?
Down the line if you want DDR5, you'll need a new Mobo again... That isn't exactly saving in the long run.
