Removing premium support will reduce price to 1102
Another way of looking at it is if you get the Alienware, with the extra money you are saving instead of buying the L5P , you can buy a 32" 165Hz 1440p Dell Gaming monitor ($300). Definitely something to consider. I have been through several Dell G15 and Alienware and settled on the L5P. The Alienware is just too underpowered or hot for me. Reviews of the Alienware share the same sentiments. But those reviews were done when the Alienware was double the price. It's easy to overlook those issues when it's only $1100.
The Legion 5 Pro has a superior screen which is brighter and different aspect ratio but the same refresh. The L5P has far superior cooling and higher power 140W 3070 so performance will be better. The Ryzen is better on battery life too compared for the i7 if that matters. Still the Alienware is about $300 cheaper it's still a consideration. Consider the Alienware as an entry level 3070. It's not much more powerful or expensive than some laptops with 3060s.

You are lucky. I called multiple times, however, the agents declined to price match. Not only the SSD capacity doubled, the screen spec of the one you mentioned here is upgraded (FHD in this deal but QHD the one you mentioned).

You're right, I didn't realize that... It says it's a 15.6" QHD (2560 x 1440) 240Hz 2ms with ComfortView Plus, NVIDIA G-SYNC and Advanced Optimus for the display. It's going to take a month to be delivered unfortunately but I can wait.

No go for me either. They checked with a higher up team too.

Definately BS because it was 0% claimed when I ordered. There was another model that had a QHD screen that said 30% claimed. I remember thinking wow no one jumped on this yet, I finally got one!

Lucky! I would jump into that one quickly and would prefer it over Legion 5 pro at that price

It must really depend on which CSR you get or who the supervisor is. I called in and initially they tried to give me the above referenced 1TB SSD spec for $1499 discounted down to $1249. I said no, that the additional hard drive capacity wasn't worth $150 to me. They put me on an extended hold and came back and pricematched the original order. When I received the spec sheet PDF via email to approve before ordering, I matched it line for line against the original order to make sure it was comparable, and immediately purchased, as the screen and warranty items were both improved over the original config.

So I lost the 3% SD cashback, but gained a better machine and support.

Here are the spec differences between the old config and the new:

OLD:

Quote :
Hard Drive
512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe Solid State Drive
Item number: 400-BLXB

LCD
15.6" FHD (1920 x 1080) 165Hz 3ms with ComfortView Plus
Item number: 391-BGCI

Hardware Support Services
Dell Limited Hardware Warranty Initial Year
Item number: 852-8712

Onsite In-Home Service After Remote Diagnosis 1 Year
Item number: 852-8741

NEW:

Quote :
Hard Drive
1TB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD
Item number: 400-BLRG

LCD
15.6" QHD (2560 x 1440) 240Hz 2ms with ComfortView Plus, NVIDIA
G-SYNC and Advanced Optimus
Item number: 391-BGCG

Hardware Support Services
Dell Limited Hardware Warranty Initial Year
Item number: 852-8712

Premium Support with Onsite Service After Remote Diagnosis 1 Year
Item number: 852-8783

Premium Support 1 Year
Item number: 852-8789
So assuming it delivers (May 20 is posted delivery date), I'm glad they canceled the first order. Decent for $1100.

Yea, they cancelled mine too. They would not price match another model.

It seems like they are only price matching it if you used dell financing if that helps. I called and the guy I spoke to tried to give me some bs excuse and then basically broke and told me because I used an amex I wouldn't be able to get it price matched. If I had used Dell financing or a Dell card the card company would take the hit.

It's just execuse. They told me as long as it was a discounted item that was out of stock, they won't price match.

Not implausible in theory, but in practice I don't know about that.

I used Dell Financing for my order originally, and mentioned that on the call, so it could have played a part in the initial decision to price match. However, when I received the quote in email to verify the configuration and place the order, the page I was taken to allowed me to use any payment method; it wasn't restricted to DFS... meaning that at the point they decide to price match or not, they have no way of knowing or controlling what payment method(s) I ultimately use upon checkout.

But you used dell financial originally. I'd like to know if anyone didn't use dell financing that ended up getting the price match with the upgraded 1 tb laptop. That would be the ticket I would think. And I would love to speak with the representative that helped that person.

SD won't let me respond to your DM for 360 minutes. I did the Dell financing, and when they sent me the price match email it did allow me to select another payment method if that helps.... I still went with the Dell financing though, I didn't have any Amex offers.

Do you have the same laptop as the one mentioned? I was planning on adding a Gen4 SSD & don't want to deal with those issues.

I do. The only difference is a 3060 instead of a 3070. Most of the G-series share the same motherboard (as well as other internals) with the Alienware's as well as one or two Inspirons I believe.

The good news is, I swapped out the motherboard in mine today and it is now playing nicely with my SN850.

*If you are planning to use Gen4 NVME, be aware that only slot0 is Gen4 capable. Has no problems with the Gen4 SN850 (identical to the one in the first slot) that I have in there. It limits it to Gen3 speeds.*

Hey no problem. It's kind of a lost hope for me it appears. Haha

That's still approximately $800 more than this deal... for an extra 2 inches of screen real estate. I would say no, but I don't need a screen that large.

Thanks for your input.
I wasn't really comparing the X17 deal with the M15, which is now expired anyway. It was just something I noticed while I was browsing the Dell site earlier.

I haven't seen many posts regarding the Alienware X17 flagship model in general on SD. However, I was curious what others thought of the ~$2k price for the X17 after coupon, CB and taxes.
