You're not wrong. I bought a zojirushi for $10 on fb. Sold for $100 on eBay during lockdown. I own this machine and I'll say it works very well and produces great results
Saying you bought a bought a Zojirushi for $10 to sell it for $100 while keeping this is like saying you bought a classic Ferrari for $1K and sold it for $10K and kept your Toyota Corolla. The profit may sound good, but if you know what it is, that's a false economy.

I have had this exact bread maker for 13 years, and it still works just as well as the first day. I cannot compare it to any other bread maker because this is the only one I have had, but I love it. Honestly, this sale price was probably the full price back then, so this is a great value imo.

Looking for pizza dough. Anyone have any experience with this?
Setting 10 on this machine will do pizza dough. I have never tested this function on this machine because I have a stand mixer with a dough hook that is quicker. It is a 1 hr 25min setting on this machine, I'm thinking part of that is a proofing. There are people on YouTube that make pizza dough with this machine. (Ps. Vincenzo's Plate Neapolitan pizza recipe on YouTube is unreal if you are looking to make Neapolitan style.)

Not if you never plan on driving more than about 45mph.

You can find these in thrift shops cheap. Some still new in the box. It's that one present that no one really asks for. That's how I got ours (Hamilton Beach) for $25 and I dont think it was used. And since I purchased those Lodge cast iron bread pans through SD, our bread maker has hardly been used since.

If you still have a store around you. They've been closing up their stores for the last couple of years. There's only 1 left in my state.
I have one just like this, or at least looks exactly like it. But I wasn't gifted it, when my grandparents passed away, I acquired it. And I use it VERY often.

I've never owned any others, but the downside to this is how boxy it looks, and there are so many crevices it's hard to clean (the outside) and always looks dirty.

Hamilton Beach is probably about $25 new at most retailers and comes with warranty. This is brand is better quality and also much better looking.
Not quite and I'm pretty sure the warranty card was included with it, though I didnt fill it out. It had all the manuals, plastic wrapping , and packing material with it.

Note: This was about $20 cheaper last year.

The best thing you could do would actually be to learn how to make bread..
What is the ROI like on this vs. buying bread at the market?

Is this a good prep item for the coming depression?

Further ahead to purchase a KitchenAid stand mixer. Granted they are more expensive than this bread machine, but are much more versatile. The mixer comes with a dough hook for making dough. Works great. There are many attachments available. Check out the KitchenAid website.

I remember seeing a bread maker in like the Sharper Image back in the 90's and thinking who the heck has time for this crap. Get a fricking hobby.
I don't own one of these and don't plan on buying one any time soon, but I'm quite certain tossing flour and water and yeast into an automatic bread maker and pressing "run" is faster than buying fresh bread from the store.

I always find it funny when people who spend their time posting on internet forums suggest that they don't have enough time for something.

You can often find bread machines in local second-hand stores or websites for, as people tend to order bread machines and use them very little.
Pre-covid I would have agreed, but lately the second hand/thrift stores have REALLY been cleaned out around me. Wish I could have found a Zo that way... still using my panasonic from 2011.

I think they were saying you can just buy a loaf of bread at the supermarket when you're there anyway.

You think that carefully measuring out flour, water, yeast, salt, sugar (and whatever else needs to be added), and then slicing the bread and cleaning the machine, is faster than grabbing a loaf of bread when you're already at the store? For a lot of breads, there is also a multi-step process to add ingredients, too. Sorry, there's no way a bread machine is faster.

I think the benefit of these is that the bread tastes good and you can control what it's made with. But there's no way it's easier (it's a lot more work) and probably not cheaper, either.
