I love my combo of the RP with the RF25-105 F4.
But if you go compare the features between the two, the 90D generally fares better. In my opinion, I'd wait for Canon's mirrorless line matures a bit and has more native RF lenses to really take advantage of the system.
For now, even though DSLRs have reached their end of production, they're still a mature, solid platform that will be around for many years. The 90D is a stellar camera and IMO still beats out the RP. But don't take my word for it, go watch comparison videos online between these two cameras. Full frame doesn't automatically mean better.

To sum it up,
A) Camera recommendation
B) Lense recommendations
C) classes or knowledge for using the camera
Here we go, you may have just talked me into a mirrorless setup. Would you mind linking the adapter you use?
Now… If SD could just help me explain the package that is going to arrive from Cannon to my wife 😓
-Common bill account (unless she's a FT mom or doesn't work)

Currently I'm on a SL2, would this be a good "step up" from my current body? I like the 90D as an option because I can still use all the lenses that I use for my SL2. I'm mostly a family vacation/photos of the kiddo/looking to get into astrophotography shooter... would the extra bulk this camera adds to my current body be worth it?
TIA SDers!
For reference; I have worked as a professional photographer for roughly 9 years. I have used all the models mentioned here and many in between.

I really enjoyed my RP for the two years I used it (now on an R6), but people dont seem to realize the 90D uses a newer sensor than the RP. The RP shares the same sensor as the 6DmkII.
There really is no need to compare the two, if you want to move into FF (with all the generic benefits and drawbacks you can find online) and mirrorless (in this case, I mostly mean AF subject tracking) then the RP is the choice at this price.
If you need the extra reach, stay with the 90D and its very impressive sensor (considering we still dont have a mirrorless follow up to the 7D series)

The 90d will do better in low light(!); is far superior in FPS; will correctly use the lenses you have; is a more "pro" feeling camera; far superior full sensor 4k video. Although the RP has 26Mpixels, using your crop lenses will reduce the resolution to be a measly 10MPixels (26M/(1.6*1.6)). Staying on an EF-S means all the depreciated EF lens are easy to use, readily available and cheap. Canon has many really great R mount lenses but check the prices; they have been slow to introduce less expensive ones.
Alternatives:
90d vs m6 mark 2 w/view finder: same sensor, much smaller package, very, very similar.
90d vs. R: the R offers real world better performance but at a higher price.
90d vs R5/R6/whatever: this is the meat of where the full frame mirrorless has benefit but for a lot more money.
90d vs. RP: if you like your lenses, 90d. If you didn't own any lenses, honestly, I would save for the R. The weak RAW performance and the 5FPS would make me nuts.
90d vs Keep the SL2: I went from the SL1 -> 70d > 80d. If you always shoot in P mode; or don't shooting fast moving subjects; or don't use RAW; or don't post process images; you might stay where you are. The SL2 uses the sensor from the 80d and is quite decent.
Good luck!

At the end of the day, you're totally right: I like my lenses and would like to continue using them without an adapter, selling them and re-investing in R lenses would just cost way too much money.
Upgrading to the 90D for someone like me that mainly uses their camera for stills makes little sense as most of the upgraded functionality is on the video side. Sure, you get a higher megapixel sensor but for a hobbyist like me, I don't really need it.
I noticed you said shooting in RAW on the 90D would be more advantageous, but I shoot in RAW on my SL2 and post in Lightroom for some excellent results… not sure what you meant?
At the end of the day, I decided to keep my SL2, sell a couple of my "redundant" lenses and save up for a nice EF mount lens… which will likely only get cheaper as time goes on.
Thank you to all the SDers that offered all their guidance, this community rocks!

The 90d has a bit better dynamic range. Raw is needed to, for example, pull up shadow details. The 90d will be little better.
Good luck!
I wasn't aware of the Canon Upgrade Program (866) 443-8002, option 2) until viewing this thread. I just ordered a refurbed R5! That sent me back a bunch of money.
