Looks decent if you need the lens. I bought just the body, brand new from BH photo during BF for $1700 and a whole bunch of extras that's maybe worth about $200. You can also sell the lens for $700-800?

No the lens got increased to $1200 new. So I think you can sell it for more. How much would the body net me on eBay?
Any thoughts on upgrade from Canon 70D to this? Thoughts on Canon refurbished? How good is this kit lens on portrait photography?
If you want to move to full frame its a decent idea, the R uses the same sensor as the 5DIV.
There are also the general benefits of mirrorless, such as vastly improved AF and subject tracking.
You will lose the extra "reach" from your 70D though.
Canon refurbishes are essentially like new. They still have a full warranty. Honestly the refurbs are a great idea because the camera has gotten a much closer quality inspection than new models.
As for portraits, this lens is a great lens, but the f/4 aperture may be a bit too narrow for "typical" portrait work. The RF mount does have great budget lenses, such as the RF 35/50/85 STM line, that are solid budget portrait lenses.
Not even close.
You can buy a brand new R directly from canon for 1600.
Nobody is going to buy from a third party seller (you) for that price.
Plus, its a refurb body, not new.
You could likely get in the ballpark of 1000 for the refurb body only on ebay.
As most mentioned you can get the body for better price elsewhere considering used. I highly recommend getting this lens . It's one of the lens I use all the time and it never disappoints me irrespective of the condition.
This is OK deal if you use the canon upgrade program."R" is lacking on AF and tracking compare to the same generation camera like Sony A7.3 at the same price range. But for Landscape and Still Portrait, it is fine and a bit high still at this price.
OK, I done a bad thing… I was going to get the RP STM Lens kit, but they ran out of stock (even though it still shows as in stock online). I bit the bullet and bought this instead. Got the 10% loyalty discount, but the sales rep never asked for a serial number (I'm upgrading from a T3i).
Considering the body alone sells new for $1599 and the lens alone new sells for a whopping $1299, $1889.10 seems like a solid deal, especially since Canon refurbs tend to be pristine.
I'll be eating Aldi cat food for the next few months, but I'm looking forward to playing with this new toy…

Me too, me too but I'm going from a 70D. I added a refurbished 50mm f1.8 to it. 🙂
