This is the NVMe to buy for notebooks and external enclosures. Low power consumption and runs cooler than most all other drives available.

Great NVME drive at a great price, but when is that Platinum PCIe Gen 4 coming out? Gen 5 will be around the corner before we know it…

And not by a small margin either. The power efficiency and cool temps are far and away better than most other drives. The price just hasn't come down along with the others.

Still, for a mobile device or any small/tiny form factor uses, I haven't seen a cooler, lower power nvme so far, but admittedly I haven't looked in a few months.

No heat sink needed. Had one in my last build, and except for doing something like a malwarebytes scan, the drive never got very warm. Still remained well within tolerances witout a heatsink @100% sustained usage.

Has anyone seen an ultra low power demand, low therms nvme other than this one?

Thanks. I figured. The way i was written sounded odd.I thought about getting it for my desktop, but I got the Samsung 970 and WD SN 750 SE already. :/ The power maybe goes off once a year, but I rarely have anything important running on my desktop.

I did this myself with 1TB of this drive mainly because I could not stand Windows 11 and figured I would replace 512GB with the 1TB (bought last time it dipped under $100) while I was installing secondary nvme drive.

It has been working perfectly and seems snappier than stock 512GB drive (WD SN730) although a lot of it may have been factory Windows 11 vs clean Windows 10.

IIRC same number of NAND chips between 1TB and 2TB version. Less simultaneous access to twice as much data from denser NAND. But I recall difference was relatively small.

Really I thought it was usually faster the larger up you go since there is more dram or SLC for caching and then nand usually has more chips configured for parallel access: maybe controller throttled due to heat.

Yeah I like the o r i c o enclosure. It's great heat dissipation design and probably the most stable but also not the fastest. Has a funky screw and these plastic tabs inside tho.

Hi everyone. I just ordered the Samsung Pro 980 with Heatsink for around $145 when factoring cashback and using about $9 I had in Samsung rewards. Is that a decent deal or this one better. And do I really need Heatsink. I am gonna be replacing the drive in Aurora R8 and move the old one to an adapter in PCIE.
