It was 369 from a third party on Walmart a couple days or so ago.

Anyone know if this or other current gen models still have the extra m2 ssd slot?
Yes, officially the second slot supports SSD only not NVME however the BIOS seemed to suggests it's NVME capable. I put in a M.2 SSD as a second drive for Linux (Mint), which runs fine. I still haven't found a way to select boot between the two drives at start up, so I have go through the BIOS to switch drives.

Anyone figure out how to get them to shutdown properly? Doing it through windows turns off the screen but the fans keep running. I have to hold the power button to get it to truly shutdown.
that is likely windows new fast startup mode which is on by default - treats shutdowns similar to hibernation and takes extra time to get everything set up for a faster power up. it shuts off after 30 seconds to a minute on some of my laptops.

see here on how to disable it if it is causing issues or not working properly: https://www.windowscentral.com/ho...st-startup

Thanks, I'll look into it. I've tried leaving it for a several min, and the fans were still on.

sounds like their implementation is broken or something with the laptop's bios isnt configured correctly - I would make sure it is disabled if that is the case. if that don't fix the issue than yeah, that thing is messed up

Has anyone removed the existing SATA M.2 drive and replaced it with an NVME M.2 drive?

Looking at motherboard pictures, it looks like the included drive is plugged in to an M.2 slot that is soldered to the motherboard.

The extra M.2 slot that is beneath an easy-access panel appears to be a small board with an M.2 slot, connected to the motherboard by a narrow flat ribbon cable.

As far as I can tell, everyone trying NVME drives and failing are using the spare ribbon-connected M.2 slot, not the motherboard-attached slot.

EDIT: There is a YouTube video about this laptop. I found in the comments section where someone specifically said they tried both slots, and neither worked with NVME.

The one I had the fan made a lot of noise and wouldn't stop running. That was regular use not gaming or watching videos or anything.

Am I the only one surprised gateway is still around?

Are these rebrands of another manufacturer?

Acer bought them a long time ago. I believe they are pretty much only sold at walmart now and only make a few different models.
