As someone who used to sell Weber grills I have to disagree with you. I think the build quality is great, especially if you compare it to the new webers this year. The "hood" that comes with the model linked above is meant for protecting your cook top during storage, not meant to use when cooking.

I kept mine outside the whole winter with an Amazon cover that came with a plastic piece to keep the cover sloped. After keeping it out all season with lake effect snow, I didn't notice any rust on the cook top nor the griddle frame itself.

For anyone buying this, it is worth noting how important seasoning the cooking top is on initial use. Once that is done, I follow a very simple cleaning regiment. Once I take the food off the griddle I give it a light scrape while it's still hot. For any tough spots, I use a little water and a green Scotch Brite pad. Once all that is removed I wipe it down with a clean paper towel, then I apply a very very thin coating of oil with a paper towel. By following this method, I have had zero problems with the cook top.

Would also recommend one with a hood. There are even nicer version if you check the ones which have doors or the ACE or Lowes versions. Price might be good for start into the grilling season but far away from a slick deal. There were some good deals in January but this thing was down to $150 in September last year … just do a product name search here on SD.

Yeah if you need it now or this summer great. But this is actually typical price for these. In the fall around September/October is when these things can be discounted as much as half off or more depending on your store.

Nice griddles, but since I already have a nice SS grill (with a nice lid), a flat griddle to sit on the grill makes a lot more sense to me.

Go with the one that has the hood for $325. This is an older model Walmart has carried for a while. Also, the side shelves fold down on the newer one with the hood whereas the shelves on this do not.

I had this griddle and for one person, it's too big. I ended up giving to a guy with 6 kids and bought the griddle and charcoal combo. I'm not very happy with that either. If I were to do it over, I would get the portable one with a lid. You NEED a hard top lid!!! Soft waterproof covers don't cut it because water pools up on the flat top unless you put something cone shaped on the griddle before covering it to keep the water from gathering. Just my thoughts... I love the griddle, I use it daily but the functionality of the rest of it needs to be taken into consideration for your needs.
