I have had both th KBT model and the bonavita models. Both produce good coffee. There is a slight difference in build quality though. I eventually gifted the bonavita to my parents, it eventually died after 2-3 years of daily use, in comparison my technivorm is still working as good as new after 15+ years of being used multiple times a day.

That said, I bought my technivorm quite a long time ago, so I don't know if the build quality is the same.

In retrospect, I actually wished I had bought one of non-thermal carafe versions. I had actually thought I would have wanted the thermal carafe function, but in the end I rarely kept the coffee in the carafe long enough for it to make a difference in temperature. The design of the pouring spout on the KBT thermal carafe is not as well designed as I would liked. Because there is no clear taper, the coffee does have a higher chance of dripping. You can get around this with careful pouring, but the un-caffeinated version of me usually isn't in the mood to be careful. It's not enough of a deal breaker to make me buy a new coffee maker, but if it ever dies, I'll probably buy a glass carafe.

They're both certified by the Specialty Coffee Association, so I don't think it's worth it to upgrade if you already have something certified.

How is this "better" than an Oxo Brew 9 cup with metal thermos carafe?

Thanks for the heads up! I think I will be going for the KBT model which is also on sale for $263 since I prefer a thermal carafe: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DDRG...BYR_0?th=1

I have a Bonavita which makes fine brews but little things with it have annoyed the wife over the years enough to justify the upgrade.

Dang that is one my wife's issue with Bonavita I was hoping would be better on the KBT. I thought there was an insert into the carafe that made it flow neatly

I have 2 of the Technivorm moccamasters. The reason I have 2 is b/c of the cheap plastic parts. The main bit is nice but the plastic parts break and they want $50 for shipping of a $2 part. They do make good coffee quick...so there's that.

For clarity I have two KBGT Thermal Moccamasters...not this model, but I think they share the same plastic parts

What part is broken? Just curious as what the weak point is. Thanks.

I have both the thermal and glass carafe versions, and much prefer the glass. Much easier to clean and prefer the hot plate to keep coffee warm. But nevertheless, both versions are excellent and you can't go wrong with either.

Had one reservoir start leaking due to steam from the basket. It basically caused the plastic to splinter. I had two lids (one reservoir lid and one basket lid) crack to the point where they were almost in two.

I have this model. It was given as a gift. It definitely makes great coffee but the build quality is a joke. They use the cheapest plastic and the glass is super thin. It is also super light. I'm sure the internals will last but very disappointing with how cheap it looks and feels for the price point.

This is made in the Netherlands. OXO products are made…somewhere else.

Interesting, I have the thermal version of the CDT grand. I am surprised to see the negative comments on the thermal carafe.

I've had it for about a month now and I really like it. It's one of the few thermal carafes that doesn't have one of those stupid lids where coffee gets stuck in the plastic spout mechanism that shuts. It keeps coffee hot for a few hours without a hot plate.

For our use, the thermal carafe is better, but if I were going for a glass one with a hot plate, this is a pretty decent deal.
