If your board doesn't support Gen4 then its a sideways move. The key here double lanes in gen4 from 3
I should have noted PCI express as the key here, sorry

yea.. but atleast he'll be ready if they get gen 4 mobo support...
True, I should have said that as well, I know personally going to a 570 board early 2020 and a gen4 M.2 was mind blowing.

Good catch!

I'm the one that posted the Samsung 1TB deal. This over that deal, even if I'm only using it for gaming?

The SN770 is practically PCIe Gen 3 NVMe SSD at the highest rated speeds but w/ a Gen 4 label. Or in other words, the SN770 has the lowest spec possible to be rated Gen 4. But the SSD in the OP decimates it in Read/Write speeds though.
SN770 = 5150/4900 MBps
Rocket 4 = 7000/5300 MB/s

The 970 is gen 3. The Sabrent is gen 4 with twice the read speed and 50% faster write speed.

This one is Gen 4 and therefore compatible with a PS5.

Good for PS5? Or should I exclusively be looking for one with a heatsink?

Oh, just saw the heatsink is a separate purchase. That's super cool.

Good price... BUT...

I had been using and original rocket 4.0 as a boot drive (and occasionally an install location for apps/games/etc). Drive health was good, never populated more than 60 percent or so, definitely less than 20 TBW (on a supposedly 1800tbw drive). Installed the drive in Oct of 2020, randomly died a week and a half ago, with no warning. Support wasn't toooo bad to deal with... they wanted basic evidence of a dead drive, pics of both sides to prove that it's not physically damaged, etc. They did send, contrary to reports I'd previously heard, a shipping label for the rma process.... with that said... I have seen similar reports about failure and I question their long term viability as a result. Caveat emptor.

Make no mistake however, when it was working the drive was consistently fast, and cool.

Did you update the firmware on it?

If not, that's probably what killed it.
