This looks cool and is most likely a bit easier to swing but couldn't the same thing be accomplished with a 2 foot piece of rebar for like $5?

But then you have a piece of rebar scratching up your wall/bed frame. Plus, can you slip a sock over rebar so the intruder gets a handful of athlete's foot when they try taking the bat from you?

A bat would likely draw less attention in public. Especially if you have a ball and glove to go along with it.
