Step 1) Buy LG V30 on eBay for $50 in flawless condition

Step 2) Root it and install Android 11 on it

Step 3) Enjoy all the features it has that are better than the Nord N200

Step 4) Instead of buying a yearly plan for ~$15/month through an MVNO, pay T-Mobile ludicrous amounts for their garbage plans so you can get a statement credit and a new Oneplus Nord N200.

Hard pass.

You'll still have to pay shipping and tax on the new phone. Comes out to $20-$30 depending on your sales tax. Just FYI

I've tried several times and the store always refused to take the trade ins and advised me to mail it out. Best anyone was able to do for me was print out the mailing labels. YMMV.

I had experienced the same thing today at the T-Mobile store. The store manager wasn't even aware of the promotion and said usually the store doesn't take back trade-in phones. He printed the label and gave me 4 bubble wraps and a couple of used boxes to ship the phones back. It seems the phones are going back to Assurant, not T-Mobile and will be used to recycle for parts/ metals if it's recyclable.

I did find 1 older flip phone than the android kitkat phone that I was going to trade in. Called 611 and the T-Mobile rep said I can send in the older one phone and that even if there is a mismatch, T-Mobile will honor the promotion. Not sure I can believe that 100% but she promised to check my account in 30 days to see I got the credit. I'll keep my fingers crossed and shall see how it turns out.

No need to wait for Tmo rep. After Assurant received your phone, you can check the status yourself by login into your Tmo account online / app. Click on the Bill tab, then click on the "View account activity" link at the bottom of the page. You should see "Device Recovery credit applied" if your trade-in was successful.

Good to know. Thank you for the info. The T-Mobile site has been wonky for me. I can't even pull up the order history to print the shipping labels which was why I ended up going to the brick and mortar store.

Lol, some of us pay less than $15 per line for Magenta Max. So for me, everything you said above is garbage. I grab these "free with any trade" phones just to have as backup or to use as wifi devices around the house. Since I'm on MMax, and not an MVNO, I also grab free with trade flagship phones as well. Since I feel I have a good deal on my plan, I never go griping about bill credits or being locked down for 24 months. . .as it doesn't matter to me
How can you pay only $15 per line with MMax? Please share, Thank you!

If I am reading the thread correctly (you might try doing that), this phone can't be unlocked until paid off.

Sounds like a good plan. Step 2 stops me though- afaik, rooting involves downloading an unknown binary from the 'nets. Are there any safe ways to root?

The developer of Magisk is much more trustworthy than LG/OnePlus/Samsung phone OS developers, imo. Those companies keep shoehorning more ads, data collection, forced system apps, and questionable services into the phone OS. No way to get out of any of that except root.

I'll trust the unknown binary over that.

How can a T-mobile prepaid account get this offer?
I switched to the $15/month prepaid T-Mobile Connect plan less than a year ago. Last month, I received a txt from T-Mobile saying that starting July 1st, T-Mobile is transitioning into the 5G network and will no longer support 3G phones. Plz go to any T-Mobile store and trade in your Moto IMEI xxxxx for a free 5G One Plus N200. I did and it was a straightforward no-hassle trade-in, cost-free and with no contract, at least for me!

In the dropdown menu when choosing the phone, there's no option to choose a 'Z5g Upgrade Promo All Carriers'. Has it been removed? Does anyone know how to select an option for a flip phone that is not in the list?
