Thanks Coffeeman. These (this deal and the 1/4" set) are the kinds of sets that people who complain about general use mechanics sets (because they include things other than sockets) should really be looking for.

This set is probably ok for someone who wants a small set of tools for an emergency, car ect. I would wait as I have seen and bought much nicer sets for under $100 on Slickdeals, I started out as a mechanic as a teenager and the right tools make all of the difference, DeWalt has some nice sets pretty cheap when on sale.

Looks like a great car kit. No extra BS, but enough to get most things fixed. Add a multi screwdriver and some knipex pliers and you could go pretty far. In for 3.

The best part of this set is thar they are 6 point sockets which equates to less stripped nuts and bolts

Bought 2 sets early of this year (2022)
This set includes torx and hex bit for 3/8 dr.
Good for euro cars or japan/korea cars.

Personally I only use 3/8 dr. including tire rotation, since if needed 1/2, go to mechanics.

I love that this doesn't include any extra "junk" or "fillers"...just regular, deep sockets, SAE and Metric...everything you'd want in a 3/8's drive. Get your wrenches of choice and a few other standard hand tools like pliers, screw drivers and you're off to a good start. If you needed it 50 bucks is a decent price...personally I would hold out for that $99 sale that includes 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2 sockets but some of those sets might be a thing of the past with increasing costs/prices that we are seeing.

If you are looking for a car set the channel lock brand set at Sam's club for 89.99 is great, I've been through a husky set and a craftsman set and broke a ratchet in both, but the primary reason I switched from those in my car is they rattle and make noise, The channel lock one makes no noise at all and the case seals up nicely, also comes with ratcheting wrenches which are a big deal for me.

What kind of car? Some cars only need a few specific sizes to do Almost anything, and some require every tool under the sun, I've been pretty happy with this

https://www.samsclub.com/p/channe..._product_1

As the set I keep in my car, but it has the stuff to get though most Jobs in it already, add a few larger sizes to a bag, a flex head ratchet and a breaker bar and you are really set.

At home I've built a collection of "gear wrench" stuff and it's imo very quality for the price, you could start with a cheaper kit like this

https://www.homedepot.com/p/GEARW.../202739149

And just build Up from there. I've had no issues with my channel lock set and I can break almost anything, but the gear wrench is higher quality, The channel lock gives you more for your money and I'm a big fan of the case it comes in for keeping in my trunk of my car and the hatch of my suv. Not sure what you want to spend so I kept my recommendations On the cheaper side, if you want to spend more there are better ones but I have gotten through some pretty big jobs with just my smaller set And a small bag of extras i out together, so either of those is a good starting point.

Edited to add This one, looks a good set up to start with.

Anyone know if this has metal hinges?

Plastic hinges stink because once the hinges, the case is useless.

For tire rotation, get yourself a 1/2 drive breaker bar and socket, it becomes a breeze, then put it in the trunk. Comes really handy when having to change a flat on the road

Husky has a 24 inch breaker bar with a ratchet mechanism. It's amazing. Removing lug nuts is so easy now. Also recommend a 1/2 drive torque wrench for putting the lugs on…
