I doubt you could fit a child of any age, let alone a high schooler with a laptop, in this bag.

I'd consider some kind of duffle.

Obviously you'll have more flexibility if you're able to dismember first.

Every once in a great while, a pack comes along that just does everything well. Some people call it "Thool" or "Tool," but when I was a youngun down in Mississippi, we received a call from a young doctor, come all the way from Sweden. Said he was doing a residency down in Jackson and was out helping the underserved community up in the Delta. And Lord knows we needed help, but we sure weren't gonna ask for it from some blonde haired white man with the funny accent.

Days went by slowly, but this man, Peter I think has name was — or at least it sounded like Peter — gained the trust of the local folk. He had a way about him, especially with the kids. A kind of naive love that we didn't see much of around those parts, least not back in those days. So one day I was talking to Peter and heard a horrible racket in the distance.

It grew louder and louder, like someone rattling river stones inside an old empty tin can of baked beans. As it approached, I saw it was a motorcar and had the letters "WRX" on the radiator grille. Just above the driver was a rack, a shelf of some kind. Peter's eyes lit up.

"Too-lay!" he exclaimed. "That's in Greenland, I worked there as a young student, helping the native fishermen with polio vaccines. It was how I learned my calling to help those less fortunate."

"Bro," said the driver of the car, his baseball cap unnaturally flattened so as to provide almost no protection from the August sun bearing down.

"It's pronounced 'Thool'."

We never saw the man again, but I'd like to think he's on some beach down in Mexico right now, facing sexual assault charges.

Anyone have this? Can you fit a change or two of clothes in here along with some electronics? Able to use as a weekend bag if needed?

The bag is 30L, you should easily be able to determine if this volume is sufficient for your needs and it will depend on what essential items you plan to travel with. Packing cubes will help a lot with fitting more stuff.

Not necessarily. I had the eBags pro slim which is 22L, and unless you had one item individually folded in separate pockets, you probably weren't getting a change of clothes in there. Much less a pair of shoes or more than one change of clothes.

Any good for a high school student with a laptop? It sounds about right but. Ot sure if this is geared more as a day hike bag. It says it can take a MacBook but not sure of it's protected at all

While I don't have this bag, I can answer your question. In a 30L bag, you should be able to fit laptop/tablet, a couple light changes of clothes, and a bunch of small stuff that can cram in anywhere. What you're not fitting is tennis shoes, a toiletry bag, big puffy jackets.

Bag design comes into play here as well. This one has lots of separate compartments so the size is separated. If you're concerned about packing clothes, what you want is one large cavernous hole to fill, so a different design would be recommended if that's the primary intended use, like a one compartment backpack. I think this bag looks great for students, work/commute/travel, Thule makes great products in general, and Thule sales aren't super common, so all in all it seems like a good buy.

FWIW - the lack of a sternum strap is a deal killer for me, it's a must-have on any pack I own for my personal fit and comfort. Also, I have 2 Thule backpacks, and if you have wide neck/shoulders/traps, the shoulder straps can be very tight fitting. I'm currently returning one of them due to tight fit.
