I don't know what qualifies. I bought a couple of stationery items at a Staples store, first time in years. Got home and realized I got two coupons on the receipt, both for $10 off $20 purchase, in store only.
Just as a little possible help to Staples shoppers. Mostly the register offers are targeted to your account so not everyone gets them but most do. Also be aware they are usually NOT valid until the day after you receive them.
Secondly, if you buy office items even including their overpriced cleaning products like paper towels and other household supplies even batteries, they will allow a price match to WM or Amazon etc (if shipped and sold by Amazon) along with those dollars off coupons. I am not saying this happens 100% of the time, b/c they used to claim that a price match negated the coupons, but I have been successful this year.

I have never tested this, but my understanding is that although the coupon will say it is valid starting the next day, it is actually valid immediately.
These coupons work on clearance stuff.
And yes, the best way is to get the item(s) price matched first (without presenting the coupon), done, then present the coupon, then pay in rewards. (except not so great now that you do not get a rewards balance coupon if not using the full rewards amount)
Most cashiers will not care that you are using a PM and a coupon, they are just going through the motions.
